USC wide receiver Mario Williams is the most recent Trojan to enter the NCAA transfer portal this offseason.

The 5-foot-9, 175-pound receiver was expected to be a major contributor for the Trojans this season, but did not see anything close to the production he had for USC in 2022. In 12 games this season, Williams caught 29 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns. And his opportunities decreased dramatically over the second half of the season, with just one reception combined against Cal, Oregon and UCLA.

Williams came to USC as a transfer from Oklahoma, where he caught 35 passes for 380 yards and four touchdowns as a first-year player for the Sooners. He took a step forward in 2022 with the Trojans, finishing the year with 40 receptions for 631 yards and five touchdowns.

But Tahj Washington took the leading spot among USC’s slot receivers in 2023, and true freshman Zachariah Branch cut into Williams’ playing time as well. After seeing at least 25 offensive snaps in each of USC’s first six games this season, Williams did not record more than 21 snaps on offense in any of the final six.
