USC men’s basketball point guard Isaiah Collier was selected by the Utah Jazz in the first-round with the 29th overall pick of the 2024 NBA Draft held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. today (June 26).  This year the NBA Draft will take place over two nights, with the second round occurring tomorrow (June 27) at the ESPN’s Seaport District Studios in Manhattan, N.Y.  Collier becomes the seventh Trojan selected in the last six NBA Drafts and fourth USC first-round draft pick in the last five NBA Drafts.

Collier played in 27 games (26 starts) for the Trojans in his freshman season, averaging 16.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.  He led USC with 115 assists, was second in scoring and third on the team with 40 steals.  He ranked 10th among Pac-12 players in scoring and was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team and honorable mention All-Conference.  The Atlanta, Ga. native was the only freshman and one of ony three NCAA DI players overall to average at least 16.0 points, 4.0 assists, have 40 steals and shoot 49.0 percent or more from the field.

Collier scored in double figures in 25 of his 27 games played and registered 12 games with five assists or more.  He had a season-best nine assists on February 17 vs. Colorado.  Among the USC all-time freshman top 10 lists, Collier ranks third in free throw attempts (156), fifth in free throws made (105), sixth in points per game (16.3), seventh in assists (115) and ninth in points scored (440).

USC’s four first-round draft selections in the last five years is tied for the seventh-most among all NCAA programs in that stretch.  Collier joins Evan Mobley (2021 – No. 3 by Cleveland), Onyeka Okongwu (2020 – No. 6 by Atlanta) and Kevin Porter Jr. (2019 – No. 30 by Cleveland) as Trojans selected in the first round in the last five NBA Drafts.

Shortly after Collier was selected, his contract details were released by Spotrac on their website. Collier is expected to make a total of $12.9 million over four years.

Heading into the NBA Draft, On3’s James Fletcher gave his scouting report on Collier, listing him as the No. 12 prospect on the top 40 big board.

“Isaiah Collier struggled early in the college basketball season, but quietly turned things around and finished well after an injury,” Fletcher said. “He dropped down draft boards and has not been able to fully recover, perhaps influenced by the disappointment surrounding his team. The 6-foot-5 guard is capable of initiating the offense, and could continue building on his improved efficiency numbers. The No. 1 player in the On3 Industry rankings has plenty left to unlock.”
