Vince Iwuchukwu Makes His Debut for USC Basketball

Talented true freshman Vince Iwuchukwu could potentially make his debut for USC tonight against the Colorado Buffaloes.
The 7-foot-1, 235-pound center has been sidelined since suffering a sudden cardiac arrest during summer workouts. Since then, he’s been going through rehab in working to a point where he could return this season.
Iwuchukwu was the nation’s No. 31 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class and was expected to be an instant impact player for the Trojans. He’ll undoubtedly be worked in slowly at this point, but having him healthy and active in any capacity is a significant win for USC.
Iwuchukwu brings interior scoring to go with rebounding and a strong defensive presence.
Iwuchukwu Checks In
Iwuchukwu made his USC debut at the 15:00 mark of the first half tonight.
USC’s Tough Stretch
Iwuchukwu likely won’t log significant minutes right out of the gate, but this is a perfect time for his return. USC has arrived at a daunting stretch in its schedule. The Buffs are up first, with an 11-6 record and in seventh place in the Pac-12. But after that, the second-place Utah Utes come to Galen Center on Sunday. Then it’s a road trip to the Arizona schools — Arizona State is in third place at 4-1 in conference and Arizona is in fourth place, but the No. 9 team in the nation. The Trojans then return home to host the No. 7 UCLA Bruins, currently undefeated at 5-0 in conference play.

USC is 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the Pac-12. The Trojans are coming off a tough-luck loss to UCLA in which they erased a sizable halftime deficit but couldn’t hold on to a late lead.
Iwuchukwu’s High School Scouting Report
Legit size with great length. Plays with a lot of pop around the basket. Is a natural rim protector, can go up and get it with both hands. Hands can get a little shaky when catching the ball at his chest or below. Tries to dunk everything within five feet. He is developing on the block shows promise over his left shoulder. Needs to become more steady with his free throws, like to see develop his touch within the game. Moves well understands rotations and defensive concepts. Offensively can drift in and out of games, needs a PG who can create for him.
