WATCH: Highlights from USC Fall Practice No. 7
Erik McKinney published a quick update after USC Fall Practice No. 7 Friday.
Here’s a brief snippet from his report.
The USC offense is going to be good this season. There’s no debate there. The Trojans have too much talent at quarterback, running back, receiver, along the offensive line and in a playcaller to not be one of, if not the best unit in the conference. As to whether the Trojans can put together a season that meets or exceeds expectations, the question is the USC defense.
There is talent on that side of the ball as well. Defensive lineman Tuli Tuipulotu is one of the best in the country at his position. Safety Calen Bullock has the look of a future star. There are potential impact guys at every level. But whether USC can put it all together, have enough in the front seven to control an opposing offense, and get timely playmaking from all 11 players remains to be seen.
But USC head coach Lincoln Riley likes where the Trojans’ defense sits after one week. The performance so far has been impressive.
“Defense has done a good job,” Riley said after Friday’s fall camp practice. “They, certainly over the last several days, have been the dominant group. Without a doubt.”
Marc Kulkin published his practice Notes and Observations article shortly after McKinney.
The media is back at Howard Jones on a perfect Friday morning, and the team is wearing full pads for the second day in a row.
**Offense and special teams wearing Cardinal and the defense is in white. The colors will flip when USC starts preparing for Stanford.
**Gonna hopscotch back and forth just to get the Rehab Island Report out of the way.
**In the tidbits I mentioned, “**Coach Manning might have suited up today because the rush end group was thin.” I had a quick second while he was standing nearby and asked him and he said, “I might have to,—someone get me a smelling salt!” On his way to practice, the coach said “we have great speed and enthusiasm. Let’s go to work!”

**The Rush Ends group got devasted between Wednesday and Friday’s morning practice because Solomon Byrd, Korey Foreman, and Romello Height (yellow jersey) joined Solomon Tuliaupupu on the Island. “Solo” chose to use the side door making his way to practice while his left leg had on a full compression sleeve.
Following practice, Riley said Foreman has an injury but it’s not too serious, and anticipates him back in a couple of days.
**Thursday must have been a physical practice because Shane Lee is back in tennis shoes and a jersey, and Tayler Katoa was watching the team do their S&C session too.
**Jude Wolfe is on a scooter and his left foot is in a boot. Michael Jackson III is still out, as is Andres Dewerk from the offensive line. Wolfe is out for a while per Coach Riley.
