WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at USC quarterback Caleb Williams landing on another watch list, three-star wide receiver Jaren Hamilton’s top seven schools, and a USC alum taking home a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships.

Another Watch List for Williams

Another day, another watch list for USC quarterback Caleb Williams. On Tuesday, Williams was named to the Davey O’Brien Award watch list.

USC quarterback Caleb Williams recently made the Davey O’Brien Award watch list.

The Davey O’Brien Award is presented annually to the top quarterback in all of college football. After being named a semifinalist for the award as a true freshman at Oklahoma last season, Williams will try to push even higher up the list this year.

Interestingly, despite the fact that the Trojans boast two Heisman-winning quarterbacks in Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart, a USC player has never won the Davey O’Brien Award. Williams will look to be the one to change that this season.

Jaren Hamilton’s Top Seven

Three-star wide receiver Jaren Hamilton named his top seven schools earlier this week, and USC was one of them.

According to On3 Consensus, Hamilton is the number 449 overall player and the number 62 wide receiver in the class of 2023. Given that he hails from Gainseville, Florida, it was not super surprising that USC was the only school west of Mississippi to make Hamilton’s top seven.

Despite the fact that they did not make his initial cut, On3 currently has hometown Florida as the leader for Hamilton. However, several other schools, including Alabama and Michigan State, are not far behind the Gators.

A Silver Medal

The World Athletics Championships are still going strong, and USC alumni are continuing to bring home hardware. This time, it was Rai Benjamin taking the silver in the 400m hurdles.

After transferring to USC from crosstown rival UCLA, Benjamin competed for the Trojans’ Track and Field team in 2018. He left USC after that season to pursue a professional career, but still graduated a year later with a degree in Political Science. Last year, Benjamin rejoined the Trojans’ program as a volunteer assistant coach.
