WeAreSC On3 1/17/23: NFL Decision Day, Polynesian Bowl, and 1K for Big O
WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at Monday’s deadline for underclassmen to declare for the NFL Draft, this week’s Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii, and former USC Basketball player Onyeka Okongwu hitting 1,000 points in his NBA career.
NFL Decision Day
Monday marked NFL decision day—the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft. Just two USC juniors elected to leave school early—the program’s fewest number since 2020.
Those two players were wide receiver Jordan Addison—who declared for the draft on Monday morning—and defensive lineman Tuli Tuipulotu. Addison is currently projected to go in the first round, while most experts predict that Tuipulotu will be a day two selection.
Polynesian Bowl
The Polynesian Bowl—an annual all-star game for high school seniors in Hawaii—is taking place this week. Multiple USC signees, commits, and targets are in attendance at the event, including five stars Malachi Nelson, Zachariah Branch, and Makai Lemon.

1K For Big O
Former USC Basketball player Onyeka Okongwu hit a major milestone on Friday when he reached 1,000 career NBA points.
Okongwu starred in his lone season at USC, earning first team All-Pac 12 honors. The Atlanta Hawks selected Okongwu sixth overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. He is currently in his third season with the team.
