WeAreSC On3 1/5/23: Tuli Goes Pro, Caleb Sets Record, and Basketball Crosstown Showdown

WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at Tuli Tuipulotu declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft, Caleb Williams setting the USC single season passing touchdowns record, and the first basketball Crosstown Showdown of the season tonight.
Tuli Goes Pro
On Tuesday, USC star defensive lineman Tuli Tuipulotu officially declared for the 2023 NFL Draft.
This season, Tuipulotu led the country with 13.5 sacks, earning Unanimous All-American honors. He was also named the Pac 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Most analysts project Tuipulotu to come off the board within the draft’s first three rounds.
Caleb Sets Record
Despite USC suffering a heartbreaking loss in the Cotton Bowl, quarterback Caleb Williams was still his usual brilliant self. Williams through for 462 yards and five touchdowns in the defeat, bringing his season total up to 42. Williams is now the first quarterback in USC history to pass for 40 or more touchdowns in a single season.
Previously, Matt Barkley and Cody Kessler shared the record. Barkley threw 39 touchdown passes in 2011, and Kessler equaled that mark in 2014. (It should be noted however, that NCAA sanctions prevented USC from participating in either the Pac 12 Championship Game or a bowl game in 2011, depriving Barkley of two additional chances to add to that total.)
