WeAreSC On3 1/7/23: Basketball Falls, LLoyd Commits, and Williams Enters Portal
WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at USC Basketball falling to UCLA in a heartbreaker, former South Carolina running back Marshawn Lloyd committing to USC, and Trojan wide receiver C.J. Williams entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Basketball Falls
On Thursday night, USC suffered a heartbreaking 60-58 loss to UCLA at Pauley Pavilion in Westwood.
After trailing the Bruins by 18 at halftime, USC mounted a ferocious second half comeback, holding UCLA to just 16 points after the break. However, UCLA hit a go-ahead three-pointer in the game’s final minute, and the Trojans then squandered two opportunities to win or tie the game, allowing UCLA to hold on for the win.
The two teams will meet again at Galen Center in three weeks. The Trojans’ next game is at home next Thursday against Colorado.
Lloyd Commits
Yesterday, USC picked up a commitment from South Carolina running back transfer Marshawn Lloyd.

After redshirting in 2020, Lloyd rushed for 800 yards and ten touchdowns with the Gamecocks over the past two seasons. He will have two years of eligibility remaining at USC.
Williams Enters Portal
Earlier this week, USC freshman wide receiver C.J. Williams officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.
A highly-touted prospect in the 2022 class, Williams was one of the first big recruiting wins at USC for Lincoln Riley and his staff. However, Williams struggled to see the field in a crowded wide receiver room, catching just four passes for 34 yards this past season.
