WeAreSC On3 10/11/22: Bowl Eligibility, World Mental Health Day, and Utah Goes Blackout
WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at USC officially reaching bowl eligibility, Caleb Williams painting his nails for World Mental Health Day, and Utah going with a blackout for their game against the Trojans this Saturday.
Bowl Eligibility
With their win over Washington State on Saturday, USC improved to 6-0 for the first time since 2006. By reaching six wins, the Trojans clinched bowl eligibility after missing the postseason in 2021. This will mark just the second time in the past five seasons that USC will play in a bowl game. (The Trojans declined a bowl bid in 2020 due to the COVID 19 pandemic.)
To commemorate the milestone, the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl decided to have a little fun on Twitter.
As much fun as playing in a bowl named after the iconic Frosted Flakes mascot sounds, Trojan fans are hoping that USC will head for a postseason destination a bit more prestigious than El Paso, Texas.
World Mental Health Day
USC quarterback Caleb Williams has a habit of painting his nails for games. This week, Williams elected to convey an important message, painting them with 988, the number for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, in honor of World Mental Health Day yesterday.

Williams’s charity, the Caleb Cares Foundation, has previously done work surrounding mental health awareness. Last month, Williams helped produce a public service announcement on the topic entitled “Seize the Awkward”.
Utah Goes Blackout
Yesterday, Utah announced that Saturday evening’s game against USC will be a blackout. The team will wear all black uniforms, and fans will be encouraged to follow suit.
Trojan fans who make the trip are definitely going to stand out in Cardinal and Gold among a sea of black.
