WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at three-star edge rusher David Peevy committing to USC, former USC catcher Garrett Stubbs making the World Series, and Arizona bringing back Wildcat alum Gronk ahead of Saturday’s game.

David Peevy Commits

On Thursday, USC picked up a commitment from three-star edge rusher David Peevy. The San Diego native chose the Trojans over Oregon and Washington.

Three-star edge rusher David Peevy committed to USC yesterday.

According to On3 Consensus, Peevy is the number 968 overall player in the class of 2023. In addition, he is the number 81 edge rusher in his class.

Stubbs in World Series

The World Series begins tonight, and one Trojan alum will take part in the action. The Philadelphia Phillies announced their roster for the Fall Classic this morning, and it includes former USC catcher Garrett Stubbs.

Stubbs played at USC from 2012-2015. As a senior in 2015, he was named a first team All-American and won the Johnny Bench Award as the nation’s top catcher. He also helped lead USC to their only NCAA Tournament appearance of the past 15 years.

The Houston Astros selected Stubbs in the eighth round of the 2015 MLB Draft. After seven years in the Astros’ system, Houston traded Stubbs to the Phillies last year. Now, he will have a chance to face his former team on the game’s biggest stage.

Arizona Brings Back Gronk

Ahead of Saturday’s matchup with number ten USC, Arizona is bringing back a notable alum: the one and only Rob Gronkowski, a.k.a. Gronk.

Gronkowski played at Arizona in 2007 and 2008. (He missed his 2009 junior season with an injury.) Over those two years, he caught 75 passes for 1,197 yards and 16 touchdowns. After the New England Patriots selected Gronkowski 42nd overall in the 2010 NFL Draft, he would go on to have arguably the greatest career ever by an NFL tight end.
