WeAreSC On3 11/17/22: Rivalry Smack Talk, Big Basketball Recruits, and Rose Bowl "Sellout"
WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at some smack talk from UCLA ahead of the Crosstown Showdown, USC Men’s and Women’s Basketball each landing a huge recruit, and the Rose Bowl being a “sellout” for Saturday’s game.
Rivalry Smack Talk
Last year, UCLA scored 62 points against USC, tied for the most that the Trojans have ever allowed in 130 years of playing football. Earlier this week, UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson commented that he wanted to put up 60+ on the Trojans again.
When asked for his response to these comments, USC wide receiver Jordan Addison did not fire back, but instead offered a clever response.
“Who wouldn’t want to put up 60 on us?” Addison said. “We’re USC.”
With Thompson-Robinson set to play his final game at the Rose Bowl on Saturday after a college career that has seemingly lasted forever, emotions should certainly be running high on both sides.
Big Basketball Recruits
Two days, two huge commitments for USC Basketball. This week, the Trojans signed the top men’s and women’s players in the country, respectively.

First, on Tuesday, USC Women’s Basketball landed the commitment of Juju Watkins. The Sierra Canyon High School standout elected to stay in Southern California and play for head coach Lindsay Gottlieb and the Women of Troy.
Then on Wednesday, the men’s program signed five-star point guard Isaiah Collier. On3 Consensus ranks the Marietta, Georgia native as the top overall player in the class of 2023.
Rose Bowl “Sellout”
It’s official: the Rose Bowl is sold out for Saturday’s huge matchup between USC and UCLA. Well, according to the Bruins, at least.
Earlier this week, UCLA put out a statement saying that they have sold all 70,865 tickets that are available for Saturday’s game. The only problem with this? The Rose Bowl actually seats over 90,000 occupants. UCLA will have tarps covering the remaining 20,000+ seats in order to make the stadium appear less empty.
USC fans might refer to this as “typical bRuin behavior”.
