WeAreSC On3 2/22/23: Potential Rule Changes, Player of the Week, and Baseball Series Moved
WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at some potential rule changes for college football, Boogie Ellis being named the Pac 12 Player of the Week, and USC Baseball’s series with Auburn being moved due to weather concerns.
Potential Rule Changes
On Monday, Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated reported that college football leaders are considering several rule changes to the sport. Perhaps the most drastic of these changes would be the game clock continuing to run after incomplete passes.
It is unclear exactly how much support such a drastic proposal has at this time. However, there are several other more straightforward rule changes—such as a ban on coaches calling consecutive timeouts—that appear far more likely to be implemented in the near future.
Player of the Week
Following strong performances against Cal and Stanford, USC’s Boogie Ellis was recently named the Pac 12 Player of the Week.

It is Ellis’s second time this season earning such honors. He was previously named the Pac 12 Player of the Week for his huge game against UCLA in late January.
Baseball Series Moved
This upcoming weekend, USC Baseball was scheduled to host Auburn in a marquee three-game series. Due to rain in the forecast in Los Angeles, however, the Trojans will now instead visit the Tigers in Auburn, Alabama.
Last night, USC suffered its first defeat of the 2023 season, an 8-7 home loss to UC Irvine.
