WeAreSC On3 8/29/22: Hype Video Drops, JT vs Kedon, and an Oral History
WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at USC dropping a new hype video with kickoff later this week, the JT Daniels vs Kedon Slovis matchup being made official, and an oral history of Pete Carroll’s rise to dominance at USC.
Hype Video Drops
At long last, game week has arrived for USC Football. After an offseason defined by change, the Trojans will kick off the 2022 season on Saturday at the Coliseum against Rice.
In anticipation of game week, USC put out a hype video on Sunday night in order to get fans excited for a new era of Trojan Football.
If that doesn’t get you fired up, then I don’t know what will.
JT vs Kedon
When former USC and Georgia quarterback JT Daniels transferred to West Virginia in the spring, people immediately circled the Mountaineers’ season opener against Pitt and fellow former Trojan QB Kedon Slovis. Yesterday, that QB matchup became official.
Less than a week after Pitt announced Slovis as its starter, West Virginia officially named Daniels as its starting quarterback on Monday.
When the Mountaineers and Panthers square off on Thursday night, it will mark exactly three years and one day since Slovis and Daniels last shared the field. That was on August 31, 2019, when Slovis relieved an injured Daniels after the latter tore his ACL during USC’s season opener against Fresno State.

An Oral History
With Lincoln Riley set to make his USC coaching debut on Saturday, he is looking to recreate the blueprint set by USC’s last national championship-winning head coach, Pete Carroll.
Recognizing this, ESPN yesterday released a detailed oral history of Pete Carroll’s arrival at USC and his rise to dominance in Los Angeles.
The piece includes quotes from several players who played for Carroll at USC, including Heisman Trophy winners Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. It also features numerous assistant coaches from Carroll’s USC coaching staffs, including former Trojan head coach Lane Kiffin.
The story is definitely worth a read for any Trojan fan looking to briefly relive USC’s most recent glory days.
