We saw during the Pete Carroll years that when USC football is running the way USC football should run, you never know what celebrity or Hollywood star will show up on the sideline or to a practice.

The Trojans have been visited by some of the best football players in USC history since Lincoln Riley took over the program. On Thursday, another former Trojan legend addressed the team. Though, he’s not one known for his success on the field.

Following the practice, Riley called superstar actor Will Ferrell up to say a few words.

Ferrell gave a quick word of advice to the players regarding maintaining their physical health following the practice held inside the Coliseum.

“Guys, don’t forget. Cold plunge,” Ferrell said.

He also campaigned a bit for himself to lead the team this season.

“I’d love a couple votes as a captain, if you can spare them,” he said, before adding, “We’re so fired up for this year.”

And it wouldn’t be Will Ferrell if he didn’t toss some physical humor into an appearance. He dropped to the ground and started to roll the length of the field, a common post-practice punishment at this level.

Not Ferrell’s First Time With the Trojans

Ferrell earned a sports information degree from USC in 1990. He’s been a consistent USC fan and got close to the program when Carroll was the head coach and truly embraced celebrities being around the team and on the Coliseum sidelines.

Ferrell came out to a practice dressed as Captain Compete during the 2008 season.

In 2015, years after Carroll left for the Seattle Seahawks, Ferrell led the Trojans out of the Coliseum tunnel for a game against the Stanford Cardinal.

He also bears a striking resemblance to Chuck Berry, who trained some of USC’s best football players as they prepared for the NFL Draft.
