Former USC quarterback Malachi Nelson could have a potential new destination in mind after transferring away from the Trojans — one that may come as a surprise.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Nelson is currently slated to visit Boise State in the next few days to check out the Broncos’ campus. Here was that report, which Thamel tweeted out Thursday afternoon:

“Sources: Quarterback Malachi Nelson, the former No. 1 overall recruit from 2023, will take an official visit to Boise State in the upcoming days. Nelson transferred out of USC after one season, and Boise will mark his first official visit.”

Thamel added that not only will Nelson visit Boise State, but the blue-fielded Mountain West powerhouse is the favorite to land him.

“Boise is the favorite to land Nelson, who is looking for a blue-collar program to blend in and prove himself, said Thamel in a second tweet. “Nelson’s attraction to Boise stems from the opportunity to grow with a strong program that includes 18 returning starters, four starting OL and star RB Ashton Jeanty.”

Nelson is more of a long-term play since he was a true freshman in 2023. Although he was an elite recruit, five-stars according to the On3 Industry Rankings and No. 11 overall in his cycle. He’d be one heck of a get for Boise State.
