Yikes. Best golfer in the world and not one cop recognizes you? Crazy.

Those Prevost RVs the players use are pretty awesome - and expensive.

This is nothing for a PGA of America run Championship. The one I worked wound up w/ no grass on the greens in SoFla in August, so they did the natural thing - tried to OVERSEED them in 95 degree heat.

They ended up having to paint them green.

We also had a stripper manning a floating scoreboard, so there was that.

1 of the owners of Valhalla realizes how important Scottie is to this weekend and goes and gets Scottie from jail. This is going to be a bad look all the way around. Wait until all the facts come out, but I would expect charges to be dropped. Not sure whether Scottie was confused or didn't listen and the police probably overreacted. Now the police are the story this weekend and are going to take a lot of heat. Especially the cop who said I don't care who he is he is going to jail and arrested. Give Scottie a lot of credit not playing the "do you know who I am card...." Scottie just look totally confused like what the heck is going on here. It all happened so quick .... Seems to me a verbal or written warning would have been enough. Not to make a spectacle and arrest someone regardless who it is.

Things in Scottie’s favor: He never raised his voice, didn’t use profanity, didn’t play the “do you know who I am” card…and everyone that knows/works with him says he’s the nicest/calmest guy you’d ever meet. Plus, it sounds like a) they do this every day to get around traffic and the officers/staff work with them (and another officer may have told him to do it), and b) other players were also doing it today.

Thing against Scottie: he kept driving after being told to stop and injured a police officer

Could have been handled better by everyone. Expect a plea, a fine, maybe community service, and we move along.

Exactly I would expect maybe a plea of not listening to police officer instructions and a fine. All other charges dropped. My guess is the police department is looking how to get out of this quickly and move along and not be the story this weekend of the pga championship.

I totally agree that Scottie should have obeyed the officers. There is no way in hell, unless your a super golf fan, that security personnel knows who all the golfers are and they apply the rules to everyone regardless.

I work security at major events and I have no idea who is who, unless you have approved credentials saying you can get to certain places I will stop you. I don't care if you are a higher up at the university, super rich CEO of Nike, an NFL player, NBA player, on the Olympic team, head coach of a visiting team, I will stop you and prevent you from accessing where you are not supposed to access. I am not law enforcement but if I need law enforcement to stop you they are right next to me. I don't subscribe to the "rules apply to everyone but me" mentality, they can fire me for doing my job if they want.

Their cars are clearly marked to tell you they are players...the issue seems to be that all of the officers and security staff working those areas are trained in being able to identify them...a detective that's there investigating the fatality likely isn't given the same information (or really cares at that point).

I didn't see that the cars were clearly marked in the story I read. Also, possibly the officers involved may have been there due to the fatality and were not trained to recognize the marked cars of the professional golfers. I know for me, regardless of my credentials, I do what law enforcement tells me in circumstances like this.

Based on their initial defense, the claim is that he was following directions given by a different officer...

Sounds like complete chaos there this morning... vendor is hit and killed by a vehicle around 5am. Its dark and raining. Traffic is at a complete standstill. Traffic routes have changed from earlier in the week to get in and out. Police and tournament volunteers are both wearing yellow vests. Bus is sitting there with no driver blocking traffic. Police can't find the driver. Scheffler pulls out around 2 cars to pull into the players parking lot per a police officers instructions. His SUV has large sign on it marking it as a contestant in the tournament. Players are nervous they are going to miss their warm up times. A different cop jumps on his car and Scheffler drives about 10 yards and stops. Cop starts hitting his car with his flashlight and says to get out of the car. Puts him face first against the window and cuffs him. Escorts him to the police car and proceeds to arrest him. By all accounts it was completely nuts trying to get in there today. All the players said it was complete chaos. With eyewitnesses saying Scottie was following another officers directions. My guess is now the police are trying how to get out of this quickly and maybe save some face by having a minor charge stick with maybe a fine. My guess push comes to shove the DA drops all charges. Everyone knows Scottie Scheffler is the last person who everyone would pick to break the law. Probably sign some autographs and memorabilia for the police and everyone goes on their way. This is not a good look for Louisville and their PD. They will want this gone quickly if they ever hope holding another major tournament there.

*FANTASTIC* story. Which Manning was the stripper?

I don’t either. On the other hand, I don’t subscribe to selective enforcement either. Other golfers with PGA credentials were allowed to go around and access the golf course. Time

Yep completely avoidable. But 4 criminal charges is hardly a “big to do over nothing”.

Bar cart girls at the (then) Sheraton Resort. They'd hand out cards to the hotel guests/golfers so they knew where they'd be dancing that night. Didn't seem unusual at the time. Actually, it seemed pretty cool.
The ol' Vegas Strip business model.

If any of you peruse the Reddit "AmItheA$$hole" thread to read some of the weird stories, how about this potential one??

u/ScottieScheff - AITA for trying to drive around the cops when I may have been late for a golf tournament??

They weren't going to host another major ever again with or without this incident. PGA of America doesn't own Valhalla anymore. They did when they scheduled the tournament, and I'm sure still have all merchandise rights and are probably paying cost (if that) for the facility.

That slot will simply be moved to the new PGA facility in TX - the REAL reason the tournament was moved to May. No one really wants to be in Frisco, TX - including Seth Waugh. Let alone in August.

Which goes back to the lesson learned in 1987 at PGA National. They moved 1971 to February. Why they didn't move 1987 is crazy. It's also why I'd love to see the PGA back at PGA National in May. The scores would be high. Really high if the wind would blow.

Well now both sides have their sides out hopefully they can find agreement on a resolution. Scheffler along with eyewitnesses saying he was told by a police officer to go around the traffic jam. The PD is saying he ignored requests and the officer attempted to stop his car and now has abrasions to his wrist and knee. Yeesh enough posturing already and find a resolution. Scheffler is scheduled for court on Tuesday 9am.
