Following a series win at Florida over the weekend and some other shakeups atop the national poll, Tennessee has been named the No. 1 team in the country for the first time this season, by the D1 Baseball Publication.

The D1 Baseball rankings is what Volquest follows for baseball coverage. The publications rankings is also what ESPN uses for national and streamed broadcasts throughout the season. However, Tennessee was also ranked No. 1 this week in all the other four national polls, which include Baseball America, USA Today NCBWA and Perfect Game.

Tennessee split a doubleheader with Florida on Friday but took the series finale in run-rule fashion, locking up the seventh-straight Southeastern Conference series win for the Volunteers. The Vols (39-9, 17-7 SEC) earned the new No. 1 ranking despite dropping a midweek affair to in-state foe Lipscomb last Tuesday, to go 2-2 on the week.

Last week’s top-squad, Texas A&M, went 2-2 as well over four games. The Aggies handled midweek foe Tarleton State but dropped the first two games to LSU before rallying for the win in game three. Arkansas, who was listed at No. 2 last week and one spot ahead of the Volunteers, produced a 3-2 record with a pair of midweek victories over Missouri State before dropping a league seirs to Kentucky in two games-to-one fashion.

Despite being No. 1 in the new D1 Baseball poll, Tennessee remains firm at No. 2 in the SEC East behind Kentucky, who owns an 18-6 record in conference play. The Vols and Arkansas, who lead the SEC West, sit a game back in the overall standings with a 17-7 record in SEC games.

Tennessee returns to the top overall slot in the national poll for the first time since the 2022 season, a year when the Vols were a mainstay at No. 1.

The top-ranked Vols are back in action Tuesday at home with a midweek bout with Queens before hitting the road once more for league play at Vanderbilt on Friday.
