He said she had a DEI “problem.” I asked what in particular he didn’t want included. Was component of “diversity” made him dislike the hire? She seems pretty well qualified to me. She’s very well educated and has excellent experience. So what exactly is his problem with her? Race, sex, sexual preference, religion, what exactly - Huh? Are you assuming every time a black or a woman or a gay is hired that they are not the best candidate available? Why would you assume they are less qualified then a white straight male Christian?
Where did I say she wasn't qualified?

So using your logic, a black person or an Asian is an “equity” hire and therefore not the best person? Ever? Isn’t that discrimination? Was James Franklin an equity hire?
That wasn't his logic at all. He said everything should be based on merit.

Funny that he only says it when a black person is hired. Let’s not kid ourselves here. When a white man gets the job it’s because he’s the best man for the job (Eric Barron). But when a black or Asian (Neeli Bendapudi) or Muslim lesbian gets the job ….it must be DEI rather than merit, making the same assumption as the white man that they are the best person for the job without questioning due to their background. Personally I’d rather have Neeli as President.

There is a ton of research and history on this topic, but if you believe that DEI is only a racial, gender or sexual orientation preference thing, that discussion won’t go anywhere. It is actually a really cool thing. I suspect that if most people who are against it would actually see it and the data behind it in action, they wouldn’t be any longer.
