Isn't this your dream for Penn State? An improbable run for a National Chamionship followed by a shuttering of the University?

It doesn't matter what I dream about (😞). It’s going to happen at PSU anyway. Well, we probably won’t get improbable runs.

It is unfortunate, I know of someone at that school and now they have to figure out where to finish college and hope the credits transfer.

Just saw somewhere Albright College in Reading is heading in same direction and had let a lot of people go due to financial problems.

”As Chair of the Board of Trustees of Birmingham-Southern College, it is my sad duty to let you know that BSC will cease normal operations on May 31, 2024.

The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to close the College after a 2024 bill designed to amend the 2023 legislation that established the loan program on which our future depended failed to win sufficient support in the Alabama House of Representatives. Without that funding, the College does not have the resources to continue.”

”Today is also a terrible day for Birmingham, for the neighborhoods who have surrounded our campus for more than 100 years, and for Alabama. Through this challenging year and a half, we have talked a lot about BSC’s more than $90 million annual economic impact on Alabama, with $68 million of that right here in our city. Beyond that loss – which is enormous -- the loss of a nationally ranked liberal arts college that has contributed so much to this state and to the world – and still had so much to give – is incalculable.”

When schools close they typically have transfer arrangements with nearby institutions, where a student in good standing will be given automatic acceptance and their credits automatically transfer. In many cases the students will be charged tuition at the rate of their previous school.

Also, arrangements are made for records keeping, transcripts, etc.

I have a feeling this will become much more common over the next decade or so as enrollment drops and costs of attending spiral out of control.

Right now, most major schools survive based on reputation. The smaller schools will likely be affected first with some closing.

Costs of attendance, in state (out of state)-

-Penn State- $33,600 ($52,600)

-Ohio State- $28,000 ($54,700)

Looking at the numbers Psu00 posted, PSU really is slipping. PSU used to claim the highest in-state tuition in the country.

Add Bucknell at over $60k - which somehow seems a bargain compared some of the rest of the PA schools listed.

Yeah, I originally went 4 corners of the state for PA as I couldn’t look them all up. I just checked Bucknell. Total cost (tuition, room/ board/ fees) is listed as $84,736. I just added it to the list.

Princeton had some ridiculous stat of 65% of students met requirements for student aid and 83% graduated DEBT FREE! Don’t know how true that is but it’s on their website.

Then I sadly (as a descendant of James Moore, the founder) take back my "bargain" comment. Easier now to call it a scam. I have a friend (he's a Titleist rep) who's kid (nice kid, can barely break 80 though) grab a 4 year ride to play golf at Bucknell - from out of state - in CA. Must have loan money to burn in Lewisburg.

Just saw somewhere Albright College in Reading is heading in same direction and had let a lot of people go due to financial problems.
I had at least one Albright grad at my (former) workplace....

I know that Penn State for one, took students from NOLA area schools after Katrina--met one down there a few years back.

Well how about the students with Bad Standing who couldn’t get accepted anywhere else when applying for college, and continue to get poor grades.
Or the students with Bad Standing at other schools who transferred in and just wanted to party. Their money helped keep the school afloat. Who’s going to help them? College is a racket.

Penn State gets a good chuckle looking at those schools.

Remember, you get what you pay for.

Then USC grads should be flippin’ brilliant but I keep hearing them referred to as the University of Spoiled Children. ;)
