See the link below. From the article:

”The College Football Playoff will not flip the dates and times of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic and the Capital One Orange Bowl after SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said Thursday that he had made a request to change them.

With its 23-10 Allstate Sugar Bowl win against Georgia on Thursday, Notre Dame will face Penn State next Thursday in the Capital One Orange Bowl at 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). On New Year's Eve, Penn State advanced when it beat Boise State 31-14 in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.

The quarterfinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl was delayed after a pickup truck attack in New Orleans that left 15 people dead and dozens more injured.

Sankey's concern was a potential disadvantage for Notre Dame, which will have to play on a shorter turnaround than Penn State, which hasn't played since New Year's Eve and thus will get a longer rest.”

I’m sure they‘ll find some way to screw us.

To satisfy ND the CFP will have O’Neill and Witvoet referee the game! Dick Honing will be in the replay booth

In a separate request, Greg Sankey asked the CFP to replace Penn State with Ole Miss. Because they beat Duke by more than Penn State beat Boise State. CFP is considering the request.

Flip the dates or not, it's still going to be a two day prep time difference. Prior to the Sugar Bowl I'm sure both Georgia and Notre Dame analysts were doing some preliminary game planning for Penn State. It's not like the Sugar Bowl winner would be saying, "Wait!! Now we have to play Penn State?? We better start looking at their film ASAP!!" OTOH, Penn State didn't know their future opponent and therefore couldn't focus mainly on one team. Given that, UGA/ND had the advantage of knowing who their future opponent would be while Penn State didn't.

Zero advantage when you have 20 assistants/analysts who you can split the duties as far as who watches which aspect of which team. Nothing to wring the hands about.

If Sankey paid attention he would have realized that all the teams that had extra time off -lost this week.

One would think that both teams would gameplan Boise State as well.

Were you assuming that both ND and Georgia saw Penn State beating BSU as a given, that’s your angle?

Sure, game planning Boise to an extent as well. But after the PSU win, the analysts back on campus had the extra day (which turned into two) of singular focus on a specific team. That's my angle.

Got it. I thought you might have been thinking longer term. Yeah, 2 days lead time to study film on PSU exclusively, not trivial.

LionJim, thank you for properly spelling yeah. I had almost forgotten what the word looked like since most of the people on this board don't bother with the final letter.

Exactly film assistants had both potential team opponents game film broken down and waiting to which team won and go to work scheming.
