“CLEMSON, S.C. -- Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney said this week that he thinks a lack of uniformity will lead to a complete restructuring in college athletics at some point. In particular, he sees the larger, more prominent Power 5 schools forming their own division in football.

"I think there's going to be a complete blowup ... especially in football, and there needs to be," Swinney told ESPN. "I think eventually there will be some type of break and another division. Right now, you got everybody in one group, and it's not feasible. Alabama has different problems than Middle Tennessee, but we're trying to make them all the same and it's just not. I think you'll have 40 or 50 teams and a commissioner and here are the rules."

Swinney said the current system is a "mess" and that it's hard to get anything accomplished as college athletics continue to evolve in the new world of the transfer portal and name, image and likeness.

"There's so much bureaucracy, and you can't get anything done in a real-time manner. It's frustrating," Swinney said. "The communication is not good, and the rules are outdated. Again, there have been a lot of positives when it comes to the scholarships. But you've got all these people voting on things, and it's just not apples to apples."

Swinney emphasized that he is not against NIL but remains adamantly against the professionalization of college athletics and anything that rises to the level of pay-for-play.”

Apparently dabo fails to realize that emmert’s got this.

If dabo is right, I hope someone making the decisions thinks Penn State is “prominent”.

Dabo is right on with everything he is saying. Too bad he is such a hypocrite when it comes to things such as the "Church of Clemson" funneling funds to players and his university offering cheerleading scholarships to girlfriends of top rated recruits.

Swinney is pretending to split a very fine hair. NIL may not be professionalization but the end result is the same. NIL allows college athletes to be paid to play even if the money doesn't come from the universities. If they didn't play a sport, there is zero chance they'd see a dime of NIL money.

Keeps moving the goalposts. First it was players being paid, now it’s ‘pay for play.’ That’s what this is, at least for some players, whether he wants to admit it or not.

It's only a matter of time before the big schools split away and form their own league outside of the NCAA. Im thinking eight 8 team divisions keeping geography and rivalries intact. 8 division winners playoff to decide a champion. Some P5 schools will be left out and a few mids will be included like maybe Cincy and a FL school.

This is what will happen. I suspect it will be four 16-team super conferences that make up the gist of the current SEC, B1G, ACC and PAC.

A league or two may need to expand to reach 16 and there may also be some shuffling of members for football. Ex: Vanderbilt or some of the small programs may opt not to field teams at that level.

I think some combination of payments, schollys for gas, PEDs, etc led to the Clemson run and now that other schools can conveniently try to compete he's whining.

He has taken big money. His assistant coaches were among the best paid. Facilities were improved and lavish. He's whined a lot more since he lost that playoff game and had a less than special season than he did while winning two titles.

Speaking of Clemson, it sounds like their true freshman QB Klubnik outplayed the assumed QB starter Uageulelei in todays spring game. Lots of people were not happy with Uageulelei last year so I wonder if Dabo may have some pressure to start a freshman this season.

Could Drew Allar supplant our assumed starter Clifford this season?

Franklin laughs at supplanting.
