I don’t understand. His dad Pete died of an unsuspected heart condition.

Right. It was undiagnosed. Would imagine his son has had many, many tests to determine if he has the same issue.

Family also not releasing cause of death is suspicious. Hate to say it, but think suicide and/or drugs.

Nothing but those two come to mind? I can think of another possibility or 2.

For those who may not know, his dad, Pistol Pete, averaged 44.2 points per game in his 83 game college career. In those days there were no 3 point shots and no shot clock, which makes his numbers all the more remarkable. Also, freshmen were ineligible. Pete was from Aliquippa, PA.

I agree it is likely that his son had been thoroughly tested and was under a doctors care, but that would not preclude him from suffering an early death from the same condition. Also, since he only died on Friday, not releasing a cause of death for a 42 year old is not necessarily suspicious. It might just mean they are awaiting autopsy results. It may be the result of the causes you suggest, or it may not.

Nothing against Caitlyn Clark but she averaged 28.4 ppg during her 4 years at Iowa. Maravich averaged 44.2 ppg in his 3 years at LSU. There were separate teams for freshmen back then and Pistol Pete averaged 42 pts that year as well. Add in those 741 pts and Maravich would have had 4,408. Clark wasn't close in spite of Pete not having a 3 pt line.

No need to rehash this, but Maravich took almost 40 (38.1) shots a game compared to Clark’s 20 (19.9). Three point line or no that’s some elite ball hogging from Maravich.

Put aside the fact that he had basically zero talent around him compared to say KY. Where were the points supposed to come from if not Pete?

They both shot a comparable % from the field (44% vs 46%)

They can’t stand that a woman has a record. Wild.
That's not the point. The point is 4 years vs 3 years. Forget the 3 pt line and slower pace of game due to no shot clock which were also factors.

Clark scored 3,951 pts during her 4 years at Iowa. Maravich scored 4,408 pts during his 4 years at LSU but the NCAA didn't count 741 of those points he scored as a freshman.

Clark is unquestionably one of the all time greats in women's NCAA basketball history. Suggesting that she was better than Maravich is a stretch in my opinion. If you think that makes me a misogynist so be it.

BTW I think similarly when comparing records in men's sports. Bonds had 762 home runs. Ruth had 714 home runs but he lost an estimated 75 home runs because balls hit inside the foul pole before curving and landing foul didn't count. I still happen to think Ruth was the best HR hitter of all time. You can't accuse me of being a misogynist for believing that. Maybe a racist?

Can't wait to see where Annika and Betsy King rank on the PGA Tour career wins list.

Same game. What's the difference?

Run the numbers if Clark took even 10 more shots a game.

You can give Clark any record you want. Highest scoring player in NCAA history.....whatever. No matter what you say, Clark can't hold a candle to Maravich on any level as far as offense on a basketball court. Maravich was a magician on the dribble, passing the basketball and shooting it. Fools that want to try to compare them as players any level are just delusional. If it makes you feel morally superior to say Clark is the all time leading scorer in NCAA basketball.....congratulations. You win.

Morally superior? No - just factually superior. Such babies.

Well it's a fact that Pete Maravich is the all time leading scorer in NCAA Men's Basketball 50 years after he played 3 years with no three point line and a larger basketball. Everyone knows the level of competition in Men's college basketball is far superior than Women's college basketball so the semantics of comparing players between the two is pretty much meaningless. I tell all my friends that Pearl Moore is the greatest scorer in college basketball history. I'm surprised you discriminate against Pearl.

Nothing says respect and common decency like using an obituary thread to get into a d!@k measuring contest that has nothing to do with the deceased.
