Looks like it might be a dry fall for incoming freshmen at Ames 😬

on a side note, why are old white men talking about babies, much less sex?
I don't know anything about Ames or this issue, but it seems like it won't be long before old white men have to ride in the back of the bus and use their own water fountains. The only time it's acceptable in our society now to be agist, sexist, or racist, is when the subject of such is old white men.

If you want to know why “old white men” (of which I am one) take a lot of the blame/criticism, just take a look at the makeup of our Congress and Senate as well as our state legislature and those of almost every other state.

Oh, I'm sure. But that type of projection is dangerous and we don't allow it anywhere else in our society for other demographics. Besides, what is the ratio of old white men who aren't legislators to those who are; something like 99.99% to 0.01%? I suppose most of the best advice and counsel I have received in my personal life came from old white men, although I never thought to credit it or discredit it based on any of those factors.

It’s about who holds and is wielding the power, not the percentages.

I agree….but that will take a Constitutional Amendment from my understanding.
Ok, what is the hold up? We can grandfather everyone currently in office so it won’t effect them.

Some of these Republicans - of which I am one - seem hell-bent on blowing the next election as well. Six week abortion restrictions are extreme. Did the vote in Kansas not tell them something? Or the midterm Judge election in Wisconsin and numerous others? Why do they have their head in the sand? I respect their moral compass but if they are voted out what they pass now won`t matter. A lot of women - not that I agree, I don`t - will prioritize that issue instead of Bidenflation due to reckless spending, the billions of $ that our country is spending in a foreign war that would have never happened if Trump had been re-elected, or the crime wave all over and the do-gooders who don`t want to punish criminals, etc. They better listen to moderate, reasonable view like Nancy Mace says about abortion or they will have another disappointment in 2024. And they will wonder why.

If you cut out pensions and the perks at the federal level most would not run for office. However, when you remove things that attract the brightness minds you’re left with bottom dwellers And I’m not sure that’s what we want.

Can't think of a time when the brightest minds were attracted... not even among the lawyers.

You should certainly be prepared for the possibility that it could happen. It is, after all, the point.

If the current administration is an example of the brightest minds then I’m all for the bottom dwellers.

I actually like the minimum wage for politicians and section 8 housing solution.

But initiating the biggest miltary blunder in modern history is mutually exclusive to being "smart".
Putin will not go down in history as a smart man.

Given his rise to power and taking control of Russia, I'd be hard pressed to call him stupid either. Perhaps being infallible is too high a bar to consider someone "smart". Every human but one would fail that test.

Like Stalin, history will forsake highlighting those accomplishments, instead focusing on the horrors of what Putin & Russia has done to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. We've not see a world leader tarnish their reputation on this scale in our lifetime. Anything "smart" is now diluted in a sea of abhorrence.

And again, there's nothing mutually exclusive about being "smart" and those "horrors", or what they do to his reputation.

I get it, orange man bad. Every word out of his mouth must be argued as if it's life and death. The simple fact is, some of the most evil people on this planet were/are smart. It's not supporting them or celebrating them to simply state that.

What you don't get is Trump's comments about Putin being a "smart guy" were directly attributed to the invasion of Ukraine, which is a near disaster, not to mention a major war crime/humanitarian even. If anyone else had said that, trump apologists would have been all over that.
But trump gets a pass for his incompetence because he's so many people's savior....including those willing to go to prison for him.

Russia would have done the exact same thing if trump had won the election. Anyone who thinks otherwise, doesn't understand Russia.

Why do you think “a lot of women will prioritize abortion?” They are the actual ones who will give birth to these babies. A lot of men will father these babies…and walk away from any responsibility. These babies need support for a minimum of 18 years…not just a few months. There is certainly no proof that the war would not have happened if Trump had been President.

I found several different quotes from Trump about putin being smart. He called the troop buildup on the border brilliant as a negotiation, and then said recognizing some regions of Ukraine as independent was smart. At one time he said it looked like Putin would get a whole country in exchange for weak sanctions, which was smart. But he definitely said the invasion was a mistake. (Look, you agree with Trump!)

But all this is basically a diversion. Nothing bantered about here changes anything, no matter how you try to twist.

Putin is smart. Putin also made a mistake in launching an invasion. (He obviously thought it would go more like Crimea. ) Those things aren't mutually exclusive.

And opinions on whether he would have had invaded if Trump had been in? Everyone has one. The facts though, are different. Putin invaded prior to Trump, and after Trump, not during.

I always got the impression women prioritized abortion, but admit it comes from news sources and political debates that aren't the most reliable sources.

Sounds like you're a pro-Russian guy.

Only if you misunderstand English on purpose. This has been covered already.
