College football refuses to address different sets of rules. If nothing changes ND will have a bye every single year no matter what. No title game=bye. Whether or not they cannot get the #1-4 seeds or not(which they cannot), they still get a bye every single year. It is BS and all the programs should be calling them out but ND has it's own pool of $$'s to they should go the Indy tournament next year. It's like having the wild card team getting a bye in the NFL and they had their own TV contract...it is BS. I get ND fans will never agree to this, but it is utter BS that college football allows this to occur. Join a conference or host your own playoff.

I liken this to fans (myself included) who complain about the state of college football. We still go to games and watch them on TV. People still make gobs of money doing it that way, so it will not change. As long as schools, mostly prominent ones, keep scheduling ND they will stay independent.

If the SEC was decent this year, ND would be out of the playoffs.
The thing is from here on out the playing field is somewhat level. SEC is losing depth and recruits due to NIL and the portal and the last 2 years have kind of showed this to be true. That doesn't mean the SEC cannot win it this year or more often than not, but it appears that one conference will not completely run the show anymore.

Eliminate the bloated playoff. Let conference championship games work as the first round of the playoffs, then proceed from there. If ND isn’t in a conference, they don’t get to participate.
I like the playoffs as they are. I might even favor adding 4 more teams so the top 4 conference champs can play in the first round and not complain that the bye hurt them. The playoffs have been exciting. The team that loses the Big Championship or SEC Championship games might be the second best team in any given year. They should be in the playoff over the ACC, Mountain West and Big 12 Champs. Take Ohio State this year. Lost a close game to Oregon. Why should the first game dictate the ultimate outcome? Ohio State deserves to be in the playoff. I think being in the playoffs has been very beneficial for the PSU program. The team and coaches deserve the opportunity. PSU has been right there for a long time under Franklin. I’m really excited for the team and coaches.

I really don’t like that all these extra games are being played bringing in god knows how much money and the players aren’t getting a cut of it. If Penn State wins the championship they will have played 5 postseason games. The players should be getting a sizable cut of that.

Coach Franklin is not completely wrong with what he’s saying but the risk lies in your very last sentence. Watch how the playoff rules change next year. Some people, not all, think that this playoff format is going to morph into a March Madness type format, others believe that it will get reduced to 8 teams with two wildcard teams. Both WC teams will be chosen by W/L and strength of schedule.

SEC not doing that, game still means a lot to them.
Neither is the Big Ten. Way too much money involved.

16 team playoff on the immediate horizon. If it doesn’t happen next season, it will happen the season after.

Power 4 conferences need to go to 9 conference games or the BIG needs to go to 8.
