See the link below. From the article:

”UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State remained in the top three in the U.S. and moved up globally from No. 47 to No. 40 out of nearly 1,600 international institutions that participated in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings. This ranking places Penn State in the top 2.5% of higher education institutions worldwide. The rankings were more competitive this year, with 1,591 institutions participating — almost a 13% increase from last year.

The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), global goals adopted by all U.N. member states that look to improve life for all people and protect the planet. According to THE, the rankings are calculated using calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad areas: research, stewardship, outreach and teaching.“

I know, I know. Who gives a f*ck?

This emphasis on academics over football is quite disturbing. Clearly a few Alumni-elected BOT flakes are heck-bent on driving up our academic ranking at the expense of our football playoff rankings. Swinging a few dollars targeted for academics over to an NIL slush fund would not be difficult to do, and should be prioritized. That would simply be the best thing for all Pennsylvanians, but especially for me.

Just to be clear, the THE "rankings" have nothing to do with academics. Their "top-ranked" school in the entire USA is Arizona State, FWIW (And not another US school in the entire top 200 "quality education" schools. Maybe the Altoona School of Hair Design can write out a check next year, and earn a spot in the top 100?).

Thank you for clarifying. My attempt sarcasm didn't take that into account (nor care much about it)!

Pitt trimmed them for National Championships in 1927, and 1933. The Panthers went on to really wax them in 1938 for another one. Beano Cook praised them as smooth operators in both the Pittsburgh Post and Gazette.

Maybe finding ways to do ridiculous rankings is how they find jobs for the unemployable.

Not sure I think this is a good thing. Yes I'm sure. Much ado about nothing.
