It was so difficult for him at Carolina. I couldn't figure out how they made it look so hard to run an offense. Last night, Mayfield comes in and right away does a play action fake and delivers a down field dart and I'm like 'that never happened when he was with us." The only thing I can think of is that Mayfield didn't like being in Carolina or didn't like his teammates/coaches. It was like watching a different player.

Quarterbacks can be like relief pitchers in baseball. One year lights out and the next year can't get anyone out.
John Unitas, Len Dawson, George Blanda, Warren Moon, all either had to understudy in Canada or were cut at least once.
Kurt Warner was essentially out of football and working in a grocery store.

He certainly has. He played with 3 injuries last season when he could have sat out and never made any excuses. When he was benched in Carolina, he was one of the biggest cheerleaders/supporters on the team and was seen head butting teammates while not wearing a helmet. For all the complaining about him, he is the last Cleveland QB with a playoff win. He also went from walk on to winning the Heisman Trophy. He isn't Mahomes, Hurt, Josh Allen, etc. but there are few professional athletes, if any, who I respect more than Mayfield.

Yeah, it was pretty impressive. But, can it last ?? He did only have 1 practice, but still showed a command of their offense.

Yeah, every once in a while something pierces through the money and false worship to remind us why we enjoy football so much. I am not a huge fan of Baker, but he was treated less than charitably by Kliff K at TTU, never asked to be more humble at OU, prematurely discarded perhaps justifiably at Cleveland and then mal-coached at Carolina. But his persistence has paid off, he is finally with a coach who will get the most out of him if they get the contract sorted. Those of us true football fans will finally have a verdict on his capabilities as a pro QB thanks to Sean McVey.

I think this coach at LA is very good. Whatever he did in a short time really helped Mayfield.

This was classical Baker. He will play lights out one game, but he will not continue on this streak, especially once there is more game film on him in the Rams offense. He was rightfully discarded by Cleveland as he had a poor attitude about working on his game and would come to training camp overweight and out of shape. He is the one who wanted to play with the injuries last season hoping to hit some of the bonus clauses in his contract. The front office wanted to pull him from the lineup so he could get surgery for his injury, but left it up to him. Interestingly his teammates were not overwrought that he was traded.

TBH. Baker Mayfield is a prime example of why some teams, like Cleveland, never have much success in the NFL. He was not, and never will be a #1 overall pick type talent. Cleveland gambled and lost here. While I respect his drive and determination, as one former NFL GM put it on XM the other day, “He was a short, arrogant and cocky player with a weak arm”. He probably has a future as a backup for the rest of his career, in my opinion, which isn’t a bad gig if you can get one.

Who runs the team? Their call to bench him. Funny how every other player on all the other teams he played on loves him. Unlike OBJ and his old man, Baker never complained or made excuses. Get back to me when Cleveland wins another playoff game.
