Man, those Bobby Collins and Jim Carmody Southern Miss teams in the 1980s were legit big-time football teams. They could have competed in the SEC back then.

If you were around in them furious days…..well, you just know. Granted I was on the late end of the 80s, but the stories were just as bad. 18-14 and 38-21 and looking a solid level below them are two things I’ll never erase out of my head.
And these young boys are about to feel the sting of a bad AD and bad coach at the same time.
It’s called wisdom, and MSU’s fanbase as a whole never gained it.

I was there. Then I was in Tuscaloosa to see Bama 42, USM 7. Had planned to go to MSU - Bama game but after seeing those figured I didn’t need to see that beat down. So that’s how i missed 6-3. Still kicking myself for that.
I joke about us losing that game. But honestly, as bad as we are, I don’t see us losing to Southern Miss. it should be a mismatch.

If a miracle win vs. USM, or even a loss, precedes a 7-5 or better year, I'm betting most people will get over it.

Nobody said they were good. But they do have a lot of our former players and will be geared up to whip our asss. And....it's in Hattiesburg, so shlt could happen.

It is a good hire for them. But if those 18 players had better options than Southern Miss, they wouldn’t be at Southern Miss. and really, they probably need a lot more than 18 new players anyway.
Really depends. If you have good evaluations and know how to work the portal you can really build up. Their website has a good breqkdown of players they have brought in and have visiting. They should be a good sunbelt team next year.
If you scared of our cast offs and a bunch of Marshall backups then we truly are bad. I dont see it but if you are right, then Lebby will be gone and we get another.
Meanwhile, I will be celebrating our #22 class a bunch of JUCOs with four years and a decent if not good transfer class to go with the few studs we had.

Yeah…..I do think we are bad. And I don’t think our coaches are good. Not only that, I think the reason our roster was so bad, was in big part due to our current coaches.
I think we ran off some high potential in-state players, who needed to be developed, down to USM (and other places) because we thought we could do better. And we didn’t.
I’ve been pretty clear on that stance, for a long time.
Then you get your wish if u right. Hotseat and new staff coming. For some reason, I am not worried a USM win will happen. It won’t.
A lot of bad former players that weren’t SEC quality. If our coaches thought Khalid Moore or Caleb Bryant would develop into that they would still be on our roster. Instead they went 1-11 in the Sun belt
