I’m going to regret this, but what is “woke” about their jerseys?
"Equality" under the numbers. Whatever that means. Maybe they will do their pronouns next game.
I would be more impressed if "Liberty" was underscored instead.

It's an appropriate message. I mean, if there's anything we need more equality in it's basketball. Not sure about NCAA numbers but 74-75% of the NBA is African American.
I’m guessing it may have something to do with all of the turmoil going on within their athletic dept with the lawsuits and whatnot. But it would be kind of odd for someone within the athletic dept to approve those jerseys if I was correct with my assumptions, so maybe not…
Maybe they were just doing it to remind the refs to call things fair after reviewing their fans’ message board complaints

Equality isn't woke. Equity is woke. Equality is pretty unwoke and therefore reasonable. It's important for really white people, Iowans, to do these things to avoid scrutiny and portray themselves as allies, without having to move to a more diverse part of the country or even live in a diverse neighborhood. Tell everyone else you're awesome publicly so you'll be left alone.
Do you even know what "woke" means or are you just using it because the talking air heads on Fox News told you to?

I'm actually more bothered by them putting equality on there because I highly doubt a university administration is actually for equality and willing to stick their neck out for it. I suspect this is more likely the beginning of an Orwellian attempt to start claiming that equality requires discrimination based on race, ethnicity, sex, religion, etc.

Wokeness requires ignoring the cultural evolution that's taken place in this country the last 50 years and believing we're still plagued with inequality. The much needed Civil Rights Laws that were passed way back then have become old and stale so The Woke now demand equal outcomes so they can vent their stupid BS.

I agree “equality” on uniforms isn’t or woke or something to be triggered by. But it sure is meaningless. We’re all striving for every individual to be treated equally in 2023, but Iowa having the words “equality” on their basketball uniform doesn’t influence this idea a single ounce one way or the other.
Seems legit. I mean to think that the effects of 100s of years of oppression can't be corrected in 50 brief years of being able to vote as huge minority is just silly. Just because America didn't' even begin to try to live up to the marketing hype until 1965 is no reason to believe that we haven't already overcome all the ripple effects. I mean we started letting blacks play for UT's women's basketball team in 1977 so they could be on a national caliber team. What more do "they" want?***
Crazy take: we are seeing the death throes of white supremacy (hopefully) with a bunch of white men fighting the transition to sharing of power. You can simply look at the "Make America Great Again" crowd for the lack of cognitive thought. Great for everybody, or just the same as you remember? When exactly was it "great"? Was it great for everyone then, or just your demographic? I bet your "great" was somebody else's tragic. Should that matter?
Remember, nobody can force you to be woke. Nobody can force you to be more aware, more open-minded, more tolerant, or more empathetic. So why are you so afraid of woke?
