I was 9, so I don't vividly remember many game aspects other than Bethea catching a bomb from Ellis to score in the south endzone right where I was sitting. I do recall the students sitting in in the southeast portion of the stadium & the band playing that "we're gonna beat the hell outta you" song they used to play a good bit back then.

1988 at Georgia Tech. We lost by about a thousand points. I was 14.

From the early 80s, I never missed a Carolina game (on the radio or TV), but had never been to an actual game. My parents weren't exactly poor during that time in my childhood, but they worked their a$$es off and the thought of buying tickets, driving to Columbia, and spending all day of a perfectly good Saturday at a Gamecock game would have never occurred to them. But one of my dad's friends was in the Gamecock club and had 4 tickets to the Ga Tech game in Atlanta, so invited my dad and me to go along with him and his son. South Carolina was 6-0 going into that game and had worked their way up to 8th in the country. Georgia Tech was 1-4. I was so excited about the opportunity to finally see my beloved Gamecocks in person. If you had told me I could have given up those Gamecock tickets for a trip to Disney World that weekend, I would have told you to pound sand. Lol!

And Georgia Tech proceeded to pound the ever-living crap out of us in what has to be one of the all-time worst Gamecock performances ever.

Mine was in 1968 with my Dad. Not sure of the opponent though. My Dad went to Furman and my Mom was a USC grad. I have ALWAYS been a Gamecock. Grew up on Trenholm Road by May’s Park, so being local only enhanced my fandom. Attended USC (1982), and going into my 41st year in the GC and four season ticket holder.

I'll start with "I think" this was the first.

1975. Home against Virginia. We won 42-14. Carlen's first year. We ended up in the Tangerine Bowl that year, but lost to
freakin' Miami of Ohio.

I had a one and done date to that game. Hope she had a good life.

That game is 100% in the top 5 of the most "Carolina" things ever. We were heavy favorites & that Georgia Tech team was horrendously bad.

‘87. Season opener against App State. Just remember where we sat, that it was a night game, and the score.

Started going to games regularly after this.

Early 80's - WB - Wake Forest. Day Game. We had big #38 and were losing at halftime. Parents wanted to leave but I begged them to stay and in the second half I remember Big George (I think) scoring and the astro turf was so wet he slid on his back from the goal line all the way through the entire end zone. Vivid memory. Scored that TD in the corner where the players come out to this day.

My first game attended in person was the opener vs North Carolina in 1988 (31-10) as a freshman. The UGA game with Robert Brooks was far more memorable that year, though. I also learned to be disappointed (again) that year. 😄

I had to look it up (Wikipedia) but it was October 6, 1962 vs. Georgia. It was 7 - 7 tie. I was eight years old and went with my cub scout pack on a bus. I don't remember anything about the game. 10 years later I was a freshman attending games. I don't remember some of those games either:)

1974 vs Houston at Willy B
Lost 24-14
went few weeks later to see 'cocks play UNC, we beat them 31-23

Grantz was hurt some or most of that year. 74 was Dietzel's last year and still can remember my dad and older brothers complaining vehemently about him. standard joke was: run on 1st down, run on 2nd down, pass on 3rd, and then punt. fairly accurate that year. we weren't that competitive. ended the year 4-7.

only missed a couple home games from that year til 2002, when I moved away. Now don't get back nearly as much as I want.

1965. Carolina Stadium. Defeated Clemson 18-17…or 17-16. I know Carolina had the lead & Clemmy scored late. We knocked down the 2pt. pass attempt in the end zone. I was 5 years old & from Greenville. My brother was a a freshman at USC

First game Freshman year 1996, the Brad Scott days. We beat UGA at home at night. I think the score was 23-14. Duce Staley had a stellar game.

I do not remember my first game, but my parents had tickets since the 70s. My mother got out of the Gamecock club about 10 years ago. She had 4 tickets in section 9 row 31. Growing up that is all I knew was Gamecocks Gamecocks Gamecocks. In 1986 I was a freshman in Columbia and starting off I did not do well as a student, but I did obtain 2 degrees in business and engineering. As I got older, going to the games on a regular basis was not as fun and I enjoy saving the money and watching the games on TV. I guess I am an offical BOOMER. GO COCKS

Speaking of Furman, I saw earlier this week they are on our schedule next year.

I love my brothers, but my first Carolina game? Carolina vs Clemson 1981. 🤮 My oldest brother took me as he had started getting his two season tickets the year before, and that’s when I started following the Gamecocks in earnest because of Big George’s Heisman. I was in 7th grade. Of course, we know 81 was the year of clemmys first bought NC. I remember the tater fans throwing oranges on the field because they would play in the Orange Bowl. That game did solidify my hatred of the taters.

My first Gamecock game was October 22 1959. I was nine years old. It was the last Big Thursday when we played Clemson in Columbia during the State Fair. Back then all the public schools were closed on that day mainly due to the fair. Unfortunately the Tigers beat the Cocks 27-0.

I believe it was 1958. Carolina Stadium afternoon game against Wake Forest. Wake had a supposedly great QB in Norm Sloan. I think we won but can't remember the score.

USC beat Navy 17-14
I was rooting for Navy!!
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
Definitely was not rooting for Navy in 84.
Probably the lowest day in my college life.

Duke in the 60s was too short to see anything. The next one I remember was Wake Forest in Winton Salem. Went with my father, uncle and cousin. We won to clinch the ACC.

I admit I had to look it up. I knew it was App St, but had no idea the year. 1985, App St. The Sparky Woods days. And a pretty unimpressive 20-13 victory. Our church would buy tickets for the young boys for an occasional stinker game for USC, clemson and Furman. I enjoyed them all. I must admit I wasn't really a football fan until the early 90s.

I can't remember the first game but I used to go to the Big Thursday every year. I went to all the games because I was selling peanuts and cokes in the stands.

I believe LSU was ranked but not sure how high.
There was a raving lunatic fatasss sitting across the steps from me in the West Upper, Section 309 for this game. I've never seen someone get so angry at situations during games, & I've attended several hundred games. He was even threatening to throw himself off the upper deck if we didn't win that game. Unfortunately for all sitting there near him, he didn't follow through with it. Kept comparing it to the '91 Duke game. I bet he screamed....& I do mean, SCREAMED...."JUST LIKE THE '91 DUKE GAME!!!!" 50 times during the contest.

2010 Georgia...Carolina won 17-6 in Lattimore's coming-out game. I unfortunately was a Georgia fan then, so I didn't enjoy the game like I would today.
