1. Successful because we develop more of a run game than a normal Leach offense.

2. Unsuccessful because the defense isn't as good as we thought.

1. Leach actually wins all of the games he "should" win while mixing in a Leach special or two.

2. Leach loses the apple cup ... aGAIN.

1) Defense is in the top 5 of the SEC in redzone scoring. Last year we were 9th in redzone TD% allowed & 10th in overall RZ scoring percentage.

2) Our OTs get beat up field routinely.

1: the OL is better than expected 2: the OL is worse than expected

I think this is the answer. Our D is gonna be somewhere around an average SEC D. If we're able to be above average at pass protection and even average at running the ball, will be a fun year. If we're average or worse at pass protection and can't run the ball, loooong season.

1) Improve in the kicking game, specifically field goals. We were 14 of 25 (56%) last year. Need that percentage up in the mid 70s at least. We missed all 3 FG chances against Arkansas last year. Make 2 of those and we win the game.

2) Improve rushing yards per game by 15 yards or more. Last year we averaged 63 yds/game. Need that around 80 yds/game or better.

OK buddy. I know you want us to suck but unfortunately for you, we aren't going to.

An average SEC defense is a nationwide top 20, 25 defense most years. That... doesn't suck. We were 9th in the SEC in team defense last year, I could see us moving up a few notches which would still have us in the middle of the pack.

1. Dolla Bill holds down LT.
2. See previous statement only in reverse.
As an high school o line coach and oc I am biased in terms of up front play. I think with the weapons we have on offense and the solid d coming back our entire season comes down to OL play.

I think we're going to be fine running the ball, at least for a Leach team. The question is going to be pass protection. It would be nice if we had some designed runs aimed at the tackles that could stop DEs from just pinning their ears back.

1) Successful because we improve offensive efficiency substantially

2) Unsuccessful because we take injuries in key position(s) where 2's are far behind 1's

1. Successful if we can translate first in passing yardage and last in rushing yards into a balance so we aren't tied for 9th in scoring and 7-6 like last year. Passing yds and completion % don't mean jack unless you cross the goal line.

2. Unsuccessful if we continue to make only 55% of our field goals. We were 2-10 over 40yds.........

1> Because the offensive line play is pretty good - doesn’t have to be great.
2> We play don’t have stupid penalties and turnovers like we did against LATech, Memphis etc.

1. Our pass rush is in the top 3rd of the SEC

2. Our offensive penalties put us in 3rd and long too often

Mississippi State will be successful this season because Field Goals will be made instead of missed.

Mississippi State will be unsuccessful this season if the defense allows teams to score more than 24 points a game.

Mississippi State will be successful this season because the O Line (particularly tackles) play well as a unit

Mississippi State will be unsuccessful this season because we can't block a 3 man rush

1. Successful because we learn to take advantage of a three man defensive front

2. Unsuccessful because the line can't block effectively.

1. Successful if we are better at finishing off close games (lost 3 by a field goal or less last year)

2. Unsuccessful if the OL falls apart without Cross

1. It will be successful if they’re able to start games off better. The horrible slow starts really put them playing from behind.

2. If the O-line can’t protect Rogers. It’s vital he gets enough time.

If we win in Baton Rouge and look good doing it.

If we lose in Baton Rouge and look lousy doing it.

1. Running backs break tackles on drop 8 coverage dump passes and turn 3 yards into 5-7 more consistently

2. Offensive line can't consistently provide enough time for Will to work through progressions

I don't have anything to add because I don't know anything, but this is an excellent thread. Bumping back to the top...

Our first string O and D linemen stay healthy all season

We lose to Memphis, Arizona, Bowling Green to start the season and take the wind out of what little sail the pirate ship has

But honestly, making a bowl game with 7 wins and then of course beating Ole Miss, that is a successful year for MSU, despite the folks that think we should be in NY6 or the BCS Champ series (which I dont think we ever will, prove me wrong)

1. We have by a couple of receivers become threats ATC. Possession receivers are great but we need a couple that keep opposing DCs up late at night.

2. We still have trouble with penalties and blocks at OL. The penalties were almost worse than the missed blocks.

1. Good fundamentals (e.g. We control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball)

2. Bad fundamentals (e.g. We eliminate penalities and turnovers)
