Great win for the Fightins. Game 2 will be huge, but this game was bigger. It sent a message to the Astros, their fans, and everyone else, that the Astros can be beaten. They beat Verlander in his own ballpark!
The Nationals won four times in Houston in 2019. Weirdest World Series ever.

And it showed that “vaunted” pitching staff is absolutely human. I imagine the prevailing thought in the locker room last night was “oh…….. damn”

I feel your pain. I’m getting too old for these situations. Plus, it’s hard to sleep when your sphincter won’t unclench.

This team needs an actual closer.

A buddy of mine and I were talking about this the other night. With all the talk of Trea Turner being available for trade, and his relationship with Harper, that’s going to be some serious money. We both agreed that we would rather keep Segura and Stott up the middle, and use the money that turner would command, to bolster the bullpen and the back end.

Middleton will do both...and don't forget we could have another ACE coming next year, Andrew Painter is going to be awesome and will slot right into the #3 roll by mid season. Won't be a number one for a year or 2 but will be a solid #3 starter as a 20 yr old!

The morning after, I’m still shaking my head at what I saw. The Stros had not lost a game in this year’s postseason. Verlander was throwing heat and the umpire behind the plate was helping him with his terrible strike zone. And the Phils’ bats were not working early in the game. And yet, the Fightins kept battling and won in extra innings. This team is so easy to root for.

Have to admit I fell asleep... I tried staying up but was wiped. Was up at 4:30am yesterday for work doing a O.R. equipment demo at hospital at 6am and demo's all day at the hospital. Crashed hard last night but will be wide awake for tonight's game. What a day for Philly sports fans.. PSU/OSU then Fightins in Game 2 of the World Series tonight.

I don't know if they did so tonight, but during the LCS they showed each ump and their tenure. Most were under 5 years 🤷‍♂️
Tenure in umpiring usually means worse. Their powerful union prevents them from ever getting fired. The younger guys are typically better. Two of the worst 10 umps in the league will be behind home plate this series.

There should be no gripes about tonight’s strikezone. Hoberg is tonights ump and is the consensus best ball and strike caller in the league. The rest of the series is shaky to downright terrible umpiring wise.
Last night‘s strike zone was such a cluster **** it was hard to watch for both sides. Almost wrecked the fun

Damn, Wheeler has been impressive so far in the postseason, but in the bottom of the 1st the Astros go Double-Double-Double to play 2, and still nobody out.

Phils giving Houston 5 outs this inning. Vierling should have thrown out Alverez at 3rd, and Sosa with a bad throw on a routine grounder. 3-0 Stros.

Thinking about that first inning, it's almost as if the Astros knew exactly which pitch was being thrown by Wheeler...but that couldn't be.

lol.

All 3 pitches were fat. Wheeler has been making a lot of 1st pitch strikes throughout the playoffs. The Astros seemed to have a gameplay of swinging on the 1st pitch, and Wheeler was uncharacteristic in not keeping the pitches on the edges or low.

Valez is doing a Steve Carlton imitation. He's making the Phillies look bad with his slider.

Amazing that despite the deficit right now, Wheeler actually has thrown 13 FEWER pitches than Valdez after 4 innings...

Bregman with a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 5th. Fightins get out of the inning, but it's 5-0, Astros, after 5

damn, Schwarber just misses a 2-run HR. It was initially called a HR by the RF ump. After Schwarber circled the bases, the umps joined together and changed the call to a foul. It was the correct call (looked to be so in real time, and definitely was on replay).

Edit: that made it 2-2. He lifted the next pitch to the wall in RF, but Tucker made the catch against the fence for the out
