I'm setting this up the night before, so that everyone knows the plans, has the links, etc.

Please use the thread for all pre-session, in-session, and post-session discussion for the 2023 B1G Wrestling Tournament.

When:
March 5, 1:00 pm EST

Where:
Crisler Center, Ann Arbor, MI

TV:
None

Video Streaming:
For subscribers, you can stream it via B1G+.

Audio Streaming:
The radio PBP, with Jeff Byers at the mic, will be streamed for free. The pre-Session portion of the broadcast will begin at 12:40 pm EST, with the actual PBP of the matches taking place at 1:00 pm EST. You can access the audio stream at:

Team Scoring:
The best place to track the team scoring is the Penn State Wrestling Club web site. The link for the team scoring is:

https://www.pennstatewrestlingclub.org/content/tournament_team_score.php?id=28&type=team

PBP:
I'm reffing, so I'll be unavailable for PBP. @GregPickel has indicated that he'll be covering the action (from home, not from the Crisler Center). Hopefully, several of you will also step forward and provide some PBP, or some analysis, or some comments on each match. As always, I remind you to please include the score for the match, and the team score for the dual, in your posts, or provide some context (wrestler, school, and weight class) beyond just "that's not a takedown." It also helps to give folks a heads up as to what mat a PSU wrestler will be wrestling on. You can usually get that info from Ironhead's audio PBP, from Penn State Wrestling's twitter account, or from TrackWrestling.

So for Consi’s we have
Alive for 3rd
Bartlett v Filius (Purdue)
SVN v Rooks (IU)

Not particularly worried about either of these.
Interesting that both will likely end up facing NW wrestlers in the 3rd place match.
I’d most like to see SVN v Yahya Thomas I think this could be a dynamite 3rd place match.

7th place match:
Facundo v Braunagel (Ill)

I got nothing here. Facundo is definitely the better wrestler, but that hasn’t meant much to him this tournament, so we’ll see!

Facundo seemed off, hate to speculate, big stage, home state, expected more from him.

Do we know when Steen will wrestle? I assume that will be a little bracket in itself to figure out who comes in 9th.

He’s got Lujan (MSU) and then winner of Moran (IU) / Brown (MD) if he wins that. Both of those would be in this session as I understand it.

Unfortunately for me, my only break today will end just before 1 pm. So I won’t get to read how our guys are doing until after the fact. Here’s hoping things go well for PSU wrestlers this afternoon

That was sad. Fights back to get it to 5-5 after a TD with a minute left. Starts neutral giving up a point. Lujan shoots immediately and they roll around for a minute cause Steen can't get out or get a stalemate call. We knew he wasn't it, but he really isn't it.

Steen is a 2-time Pennsylvania state champion that is wrestling one year earlier than was planned. He'll get better. He's not Robbie Howard, but he's improving.

If all is well, Howard is wrestling next year. My point was more that he took neutral because he thought he could get a takedown or couldn't hold him down for a minute. Either way, to not be ready on the whistle is unacceptable. Then, when you can't get him off your ankle, you grab his and get a stalemate. He didn't, clock ran out, and he lost. These aren't mistakes someone at Penn State should make.

Steen beat Lujan without giving up a TD 2 months ago. Lujan improved since then. Steen seemingly less less so. Hope hes more up to the task next season.

We're just about through the first round of 9th place brackets. Should start to pick up for PSU soon

Hopefully he improves over the summer and if Howard becouse "the guy" Steen can push him or fill in if needed. PSU has won more than a few championships with *only* 9 qualifiers.

It's the helpless feeling he displays when he can't finish a shot or get out of a situation. Reminds me of Bartlett last year because he was so undersized. Steen can't go lower though so he's gonna have to figure something out.

Tough hit to the head for Yahya vs Murin looking like a MF.
SVN v Murin 3 for 3rd if this all holds.

Just some good solid wrestling from SVN and got the MD 12-4 at the end.
Let’s see if he can carry it forward to this evening vs (assuming ) Murin

Waiting on that match. Thomas hit his head. Would be the second Murin match ended early cause of what I'm assuming are concussions.

Now lead Iowa 128 to 108.5. Nebraska is the only other team that has not been eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament title.

Beau really did nothing. Scored off the shot for the other wrestler and gave up a TD at the end. Got riding time but he was slipping back to 49 wrestling. Have hearted shots in first. He has to pick it up in 3rd but more importantly at nationals. SVN looked great. Let’s see if he can solve Murin.

When does Murin get punished for his dirty wrestling. Put 2 opponents this weekend in the concussion protocol and now Thomas can’t come back from it and Iowa gets bonus points for the medical forfeit. Complete BS.

He’s not strong or big enough. Two time state champion or not he won them at the 112. He is tiny. He’s also just not at the level at what a starter is for PSU. He is trying his best but if Robbie can’t go they will bring someone else in.
