It's not all about money as in sheer revenue. It's also about relevancy, ticket sales, merchandise, etc. There is a good chance we lose one of those games. That type of thing motivates them in a big way. This creates more USM fans that could have maybe been MSU fans.

There's nothing we can do with Ole Miss. They are established, they aren't going anywhere. That is why I don't concern myself with cheering against them. Best thing we can hope for is just to grow together. But we don't need Southern taking up capital in south Mississippi. Playing them keeps them thinking that they are our peers, and beating us makes them strive to get to that level.

It's a bad idea, all around. Play them in basketball and baseball, sure. But don't mess with them in football.
That’s some real рussy аss thinking right there.

I was looking at the football schedule again, and didn’t realize we were playing USM 5 days before we play OM. That was dumb as **** to do. Has this been discussed?
No. We should win easily if our team is coached worth a damn.

Since resuming play in 2014, we've outscored them 121-31 with the closest contest being a 34-16 win in Hattiesburg in 2015.

I'm not scared of them, and it's a damn sight better than playing Alabama or Arkansas right before the Egg Bowl.

Auburn plays South Alabama in 2025.

Arkansas plays Arkansas State in 2025.
Well those are new developments. Glad to see that.

But you know what I meant. Avoiding those teams has been their policy throughout history.

Have you paid attention at all to college football the last decade? USM is a bottom feeder program that isn’t on the same planet as SEC football programs. And are you really this much of a *****?

So those were just the quick ones I looked at. I was curious about in-state scheduling, so I picked a few others to look at. While Alabama hasn't scheduled in-state in a while, here are in-state non-conference non-Power 5 games scheduled by those you mentioned (and a few others).

Arkansas:
2021 - Arkansas Pine-Bluff
2024 - Arkansas Pine-Bluff
2025 - Arkansas State

Auburn:
2012 - Alabama A&M
2014 - Samford
2015 - Jacksonville State
2016 - Alabama A&M
2018 - Alabama State
2019 - Samford
2021 - Alabama State
2023 - Samford
2025 - South Alabama

Florida (On top of FSU and Miami):
2015 - Florida Atlantic
2021 - Florida Atlantic
2021 - South Florida
2022 - South Florida
2025 - South Florida
2025 - Florida A&M
2030 - Central Florida

Georgia (On top of Georgia Tech):
2012 - Georgia Southern
2015 - Georgia Southern

Kentucky (On top of Louisville):
2012 - WKU
2013 - WKU
2015 - EKU
2017 - EKU
2018 - Murray State
2023 - EKU
2024 - Murray State
2027 - Murray State

LSU:
2014 - ULM
2015 - McNeese
2018 - SELA
2018 - LaTech
2019 - Northwestern State
2021 - McNeese
2021 - ULM
2022 - Southern
2023 - Grambling State
2025 - LaTech

Mississippi State:
2012 - Jackson State
2013 - Alcorn State
2014 - Southern Miss
2015 - Southern Miss
2019 - Southern Miss
2023 - Southern Miss
2025 - Southern Miss
2030 - Southern Miss
2031 - Southern Miss

Ole Miss:
2028 - Alcorn State

South Carolina (On top of Clemson):
2012 - Wofford
2013 - Coastal Carolina
2014 - Furman
2015 - The Citadel
2017 - Wofford
2018 - Coastal Carolina
2019 - Charleston Southern
2022 - SC State
2023 - Furman
2024 - Wofford
2025 - Coastal Carolina
2028 - Wofford

Tennessee:
2013 - Austin Peay
2014 - UT Chattanooga
2016 - Tennessee Tech
2018 - ETSU
2019 - Chattanooga
2021 - Tennessee Tech
2022 - UT-Martin
2023 - Austin Peay

Texas A&M:
2012 - SMU
2013 - Rice
2013 - Sam Houston
2013 - SMU
2013 - UTEP
2014 - Lamar
2014 - Rice
2014 - SMU
2016 - Prairie View A&M
2016 - UTSA
2019 - Texas State
2019 - Lamar
2019 - UTSA
2021 - Prairie View A&M
2022 - Sam Houston
2023 - Abilene Christian
2025 - UTSA
2025 - Tarleton State
2027 - Texas State

So, as you can see, State’s in state schedule is nowhere near being outside the norm for SEC schools and even if it was... I stand by my statement that being scared of a Southern Miss upset is some real рussy аss shiт.

All those FCS games aren’t applicable. Huge difference in those programs and FBS. That’s like us playing Jackson State (which no one would ever have a problem with).

Kind of crazy you’re still hunkering down on this being scared of USM take. Such a fragile and pathetic mindset. It’s 2023, we are going to destroy USM.

Mississippi State has played Southern Miss a grand total of 3 times since 2012. That's:

1 fewer time than Florida has played Florida Atlantic and South Florida (on top of 2 Miami games and their annual FSU game)
1 more time than Georgia has played Georgia Southern (on top of their annual GT game)
1 more time than Kentucky has played Western Kentucky (on top of their annual Louisville game)
The same amount of times LSU has played LaTech and ULM
1 more time than South Carolina has played Coastal Carolina (on top of their annual Clemson Game)
6 fewer times than your favorite Texas A&M has played SMU, Rice, Texas State, UTEP, and UTSA.
1 fewer time than Vanderbilt has played MTSU (yes, I went ahead and looked them up too)

So that's 8 of 14 (really 13 since Missouri has no FBS schools outside Mizzou) with multiple FBS in state non-conference games over the past 10 years. If South Carolina isn't afraid to play Coastal, we sure as hell shouldn't be scared to play Southern Miss.

My guy, you understand this isn’t 1980 anymore? This USM program is a shell of what it was. We should win by 30+ easily
So again, my concern is not losing to Southern. It’s them playing over their heads physical and maybe dirty 5 days before OM. I wouldn’t give them a second thought if they switched weekends our schedule with SELA. More than anything, i was hoping to discuss something besides our OC.

Good lord at the amount of handwringing and worrying about a game against Southern freaking Miss. It's a Sunbelt team people. Yes, there's a chance we could lose a game to them but not often. We've lost games to Maine, UAB, Troy St., and LA Tech before. Didn't affect a thing and it won't if/when we lose a game to Southern Miss. It would be embarrassing for a while, but they're not ever going to be a threat to us. So good luck to them in the Sunbelt.
We have those who would feel doomed with a favorable schedule that consisted primarily of teams from the Patriot League

NOW.... I finally see why Starkville will never get a Target: This kind of thinking.

The answer here is to open with southern and move western Carolina or whoever is in week 1 to the week 11 slot

Southern Miss fans don't even take up capital in Hattiesburg. The majority (6+ of 10) were confused on who to cheer for when they played LSU in baseball.

Bunch of keyboard tough guys in here. Guess we'll see. And you'll be all wanting to fire Arnett when they play us a close game next November. Keep ignoring reality and history.
