Please use this thread to discuss the PSU MBB 2024-25 preseason, in-season, postseason (B1Gs & NCAAs), and then offseason news about the team, former players, etc.

There was a lot of good posts in the PSU MBB 2023-24 thread. You can access those posts at:

I’m in the middle of my preseason work, but I’ve also got us 17th at the moment, slightly ahead of Northwestern. Torvik has us 18th, just behind Washington. Big Ten is very balanced…being last is still about the 75-80th best team.

If the coach can get PSU to any post season this year, (and I think he has a good shot), that is a major step forward for the program.

So we play at UCLA Saturday February 8th, followed by at USC on Tuesday February 11th.
So does the team just remain in LA so not to fly cross country twice in less than a week?

Pomeroy dropped his ratings yesterday, and he's more bullish on PSU that most. He's got us at 61st overall, and 16th in the Big Ten. Projecting us at 18-12 (excluding the 2nd game in Daytona), and 9-11 in the B1G. Shockingly, he's got Rutgers behind us. Our offense is projected at 60th in the country, and defense projected at 63rd.

Anyone attend the exhibition game on Friday night? Glad to see that Ace played…and maybe we’ll be a little better at the 5 than I thought (that’s my biggest concern), based on the two games so far.

I did attend. Ace got banged up halfway through the second half and sat the rest of the game. Will be interesting to see how the new post players do…looks like good potential for a rotation of at least 10 players, hopefully will find the right combinations and chemistry.

Kevin Sweeney from SI came out with his team rankings today (he does a nice job with them)...he has us at 61st, and 14th in the Big Ten.

So we finished in 10th place last year, have almost everyone back, and we’re going to get worse. Hmm, interesting. Yet Kentucky, who has no one back and has recruited some local talent, is top 25 with a new coach. That’s guess work at best.

We finished last season 75th in Torvik and 77th in Pomeroy, so it is an improvement…don’t forget that the conference added 4 new teams, 3 of us which are likely better than us.

Kentucky should be higher than us…I’d expect that anyone that’s doing a serious preseason rating would have them higher (I’ve got them about 35 spots higher).

When you recruit the guys they recruit (and get to portal there), you should be projected in the top 25. Their local recruits are their bottom players. Out of the 9 from the portal, 4 were at least a 96 ranking and top 100 recruits out of HS. The others were guys who have developed and got tiem at mid majors. Experienced mid majors are always good teams
