PSU started 11-0 but Niedermeyer got 2 early fouls. St Francis has clearly outplayed PSU since he went to the bench.

Goodman can't get back soon enough.
Penn State’s offense just looks sloppy…a lot of dribbling and trying to force drives.

Boy Konan is a difference maker…it’s like 45-14 with him in the game. The game was close since he missed most of the first half with foul trouble. Blow out since he came back. PSU up 79-52.

PSU had 17 TOs and gave St Francis too many offensive rebounds. They committed a lot of fouls too. Very sloppy.

Puff had a good night. Konan continues to impress. I just don't know if he can hold up against stronger BiG players. Nzeh hasn't been competitive (until garbage time).

Let's see how they do against VT on Friday.

The team without Konan on the floor tonight is what I was fearing we'd see this season...just a gaping hole at the 5. But he's turning out to be such a difference maker, at both ends of the floor.

Lost in the scoring was that it was another really good defensive effort (albeit against a pretty bad opponent)...that game was played at a really fast pace (81 possessions, which is the same as Friday night, and quicker than anything we've played since 2019). We're really playing the style that Rhoades wants...fast and creating lots of turnovers.

Virginia Tech will be a good test. They turn it over a lot, but their strength is offensive rebounding. Need Konan to stay out of foul trouble, and limit those second chance points.

My other note of the night (that I’ll put here until one of us starts up a general college hoops thread for the season)…

It might not be too early for Kyle Neptune to start working on his resume…that seat is going to get awfully warm this season.

Konan with 2 fouls. One was an ill advised reach and the other was leaving his feet. He'll be done for the half just like last game. He really has to avoid those things against BiG opponents.

That’s a game changing technical that they’ve totally glossed over…Ace now has 3 heading into the half

A) we simply need him on the court running the offense, and b) totally changes how he can play defensively

Such an important 3 minutes there…Ace and Konami in foul trouble and really facing adversity, and we turned up the D and put some distance between us.

Officials must be getting paid by the foul.
They don't appear to be in any rush to get home.

Puff Johnson kinda took over for a bit there and we stretched the lead out. We are in pretty good shape. How long has it been with PSU hoops that you are looking at them playing an ACC team and your saying to yourself. "PSU just has more talent than these guys."

I'd say like maybe never.

We beat Virginia Tech by 20 in the Jim Ferry season…but I’d really go with our 2020 team that blew Syracuse’s doors off

VT replaced all 5 starters from last year. They're predicted to finish 15th in ACC.

Of course PSU is also projected to finish near the bottom of the BiG. I think they're better than that. IMO the key will be Konan being able to compete in a physical BiG while staying out of foul trouble.

Just another great performance. V Tech isn’t great, but we did more than you’d expect against them. Defense was incredible once again…24 turnovers was the story of the game. I was nervous with Ace playing with 3 and Konan barely playing, but Nzeh stepped up when we needed him and Ace played so smart.

Sneaky test on Wednesday night against IPFW. They also like to play fast, they don’t turn it over, and they limit 3s. They are really small, so a chance for Konan to get things rolling again.

This is true, but they aren't some MEAC team. This game really wasn't that close. The guy who did the game, Nik Stauskas, said this PSU team is very talented and will be in the top half of the B10. Stauskas was the player of the year in the B10 ten years ago. He would have a good feel for the talent needed to be successful, he did both PSU games this week.

We won by 22, and our 7 footer gave us nothing. He actually not all that bad.

One comment I’ll make…announcers like Stauskas would probably say that about 16 of the 18 teams in the big ten when they do that team’s game…every team is well coached, every team in a tourney team, etc. I’d never take much from what a game’s announcer has to say, since it’s always overly positive.

We did move up to 31st in Kenpom tonight…now projecting at 21-9 (11-9), excluding the game against Clemson/San Fran. I’d certainly take that.

21-9 (11-9) would be great
