Better than expected but at least this season is over. Ole Miss has made good decisions over the past few years. We haven't and that's obvious. We'll see whether State manages the new era of NIL or whether we have more seasons like this one.

What good things has he done as a coach?
Well I bet you would have said there was no way we would be within 12 points at the end of today’s game.

So there’s one. Bbbbuuuuttt we could have won!

I have no idea if he will be a good coach or not but we played hard all year and it’s hard to keep a team playing with effort when you are 2-10.

so that’s 2.

He took over a ****** situation talent wise. You can be an idiot or you can say “you are correct, our talent is ******”. You decide.

he’s gonna get next year and he should. If he wins 5 he’s gonna get a third year unless something crazy happens. Might get a 3rd at 4-8 depending on how we look.

I agree he gets next year, but changes have to be made within the program. I've seen some turnarounds such as Baylor going from 1-11 to 6-6 to 11-2 in Matt Rhule's first three years. He has to win 5 and maybe 6 next year.

I love my Bulldogs but I'm glad this season is over. That said, I never expected today's game to be close, so I was pleasantly surprised at our play today. I don't think this coaching staff did the best with what they had, but I realize they also didn't have very much to play with.

We have squandered so many opportunities. I can honestly say we could have won this game
That makes it way worse. I almost would rather Ole Miss left the first quarter with a 21 point lead and the ball than knowing we were maybe 3-4 plays away from winning this game.

5 and he’s guaranteed 3rd year. Unless he does something really dumb.

Does this staff not have at least 60% responsibility for what they had to play with?

Even the dumbest of all Sports Analysts knew we had nothing back in the Spring. How did our Staff not recognize at the Spring practices that we needed to blitz the late Transfer portal for players on defense that could at least tackle? Ole Miss had a terrible game and looked like they were toying with State in the last 18 minutes.

This staffs portal haul was awful, other than receivers it was a bust. I have no faith it will be better this go around.

Allowing them to go 89 yards on a run up the gut and and not converting 1st and goal from the 1 is what really 17-ed us out of a V

I sure am happy you are comfortable with mediocrity. You must be a 60 long years State fan like me.
Nah I’m 42 and I’ve lived basically in the glory years.

But you must have not learned anything from history.

you think we can just fire coaches every 2 or 3 years and keep getting BETTER coaches?

well how the 17 did we end up with Mullen or Joe or arnett or lebby?

bc none of them were sure things when we hired them. NOT ONE.

Agree somewhat but they only got 6 points off those turnovers.
But at the same time it might have cost us 9 points. Or 21 ? Or none. Look, the team has sucked asss all year but they exceeded my almost non existent expectations today and but for 5 or 6 plays this could have been a victory. That run is one. The egregious pass interference non calls also. Just too obvious to be missed. But I was fairly impressed with this defense. I truly expected them to give up 50 plus

And our administration is not always smart but they are not stupid enough to fire Lebby or Hutzler. We will have to suck assss for 3 years minimum before that becomes a possibility. And we may.

Firing Hutzler is not stupid unless we can’t afford it

In my 60plus years as a fan, I've seen State hire a sitting head coach with a modicum of success 1 time! ONE DAMN TIME! Mike Leach! And apparently coaching for Mississippi State literally broke his heart into!

Yet again, Medicaid Mississippi State has to hire another Coordinator, an exercise that has literally worked ONCE in my lifetime. When will you acknowledge that hiring coordinator after coordinator is not a recipe for success? I will keep emphasizing that State continues to go the cheap route by only hiring coordinators or running backs coaches for the Head Guy until someone finally acknowledges on here that it is a failing concept in modern football!

You cant fire a coordinator ? Are you kidding me ? It happens every year
You can't change your 17ing head coach every year for 4 years in a row same team. You can't change your 17ing DC every year 4 years in a row same team. Think about it. We are gonna have to put up with this staff for a few years. Will they get better ? Idk. Did State hire the wrong 17ers ? Maybe. It's gonna be 3 years before anything happens. You can bank on that. Edited to add: Should we have hired GT coach instead of Lebby ?

No one is talking about the HC, but teams replace coordinators all the time.

The cheap route?

if we could have hired Saban in his prime we’d have paid whatever it took!

But Saban in his prime isn’t coming here.

NAME THE PERSON WE SHOULD HIRE RIGHT NOW IF LEBBY QUIT.

we aren’t hiring people bc they are expensive. We aren’t hiring them bc they don’t want to come here.

We cant even afford to pay Hutzlers buyout, how in the hell can we afford a top head coach ? Of course money is an issue

Not every year. Hutzler is DC # 3 in 3 years. How can you create continuity or recruit players or even convince coaches to come here when they know that next year it will be DC #4. Then #5 ? That's clown shitt. The program is enough of a laughing stock as it is. We probly got Hutzler cause all the decent DC said no thanks. Not interested in that **** show. Sometimes you have to live with your choices

You can’t retain an incompetent DC who is costing you games just for the sake of continuity. The only logical reason you would retain a failing albatross like a Hutzler is if you can’t afford his buyout.

Wrong again. I'm not saying he will ever be a great DC but we can't fire him after one year regardless when he is the third DC in 3 years. Maybe if he ***** the bed next year. Maybe. For sure year 3. But think what you want. I'm all out of crayons

So it’s crazy and a bad idea to replace Hutzler ? Ok I’m done here
