Interesting that Williams has offers from numerous teams but he wishes to remain with the Eagles and values his role with the team. See if he is willing to take less and Howie can somehow make it work.
Milton Williams? It’s too early for offers from other teams. Free agency and the legal negotiating window doesn’t start until March.

Question for Eagles fan... Who if anyone gets the franchise tag? Becton? Williams? Sweat? I don't see Baun getting it, I think I heard if Howie put the franchise tag on him it would be around $27 million for 1 year which is starting QB money. If that is true and that amount I think Howie let's Baun walk and see what he can get on the open market. As much as I would love for him to stay the Eagles can't keep all these players and give out big raises.

The article I put in post #1458 in this thread addresses that question. I concur with the article, and don't see the Birds franchising any players.

Yes this. The eagles, historically, don’t use the franchise tag

I agree. Patullo is a very good coach, but I think you have to at least see what else is out there before making this move.

The last time they internally promoted someone to OC with no OC or playcalling experience was Johnson and that didn’t work well. Before that, it was Mike Groh which also didn’t work out well. Both after super bowl years. I get it that making the Super Bowl leaves the candidate pool REALLY dry, but man we’re 0-2 with internally promoting someone to OC thats never done it before…. And Patullo was nick’s “right hand man”. That’s the right hand man to the person calling plays when the team was doing what they were doing in early ‘22 (before Steichen took over) and early this year at 2-2.

I’m skeptical but I also trust that the organization has learned from the past

The Philadelphia Inquirer (Jeff McLane reporting) has posted online (not yet in print editions; probably saving for Sunday), their annual post-season Stay or Go analysis for each player.

QB
Jalen Hurts: Stay
Kenny Pickett: Go (he delivered when called on, and has 1 year on contract, but could be trade bait)
Tanner McKee: Stay

RB

Kenny Gainwell: Go (the Birds aren't paying more than backup money, so if another team views him as RB1, he'll bolt)
Saquon Barkley: Stay
Will Shipley: Stay (questions about whether he can step into Gainwell's shoes as backup 1)
Tyrion Davis-Price: Go (if Gainwell leaves, the Birds will need to beef up the backfield, and he's not it)
Khari Blasingame: Go (signed when VanSumeren got injured, but he's a fullback)

WR
DeVonta Smith: Stay
A.J. Brown: Stay
Britain Covey: Stay (he's a restricted FA; would be better to have him return punts than DeJean)
Paris Campbell: Go (didn't offer much on the field; expect new faces at WR)
Ainas Smith: Stay (his not dressing in playoffs has them unsure what will happen)
Jahan Dotson: Stay (didn't get thrown to much, but delivered, and is under contract)
Johnny Wilson: Stay (they like his size and blocking, but need him to improve in catching)

TE
Dallas Goedert: Stay (they think a restructure of contract makes sense)
C.J. Uzomah: Go (is popular in the locker room, but he's 32)
Grant Calcaterra: Stay (not as good a blocker as Goedert, but could be TE1 if Birds cut costs at TE)
E.J. Jenkins: Go (did OK as a blocker, but they think an upgrade is better)

OL
Lane Johnson: Stay
Cam Jurgens: Stay (they expect him to get a contract extension)
Tyler Steen: Stay (needs to be more consistent, but could replace Becton if he leaves)
Brett Toth: Stay (ben waived and re-signed multiple times; Stoutland likes him)
Laekin Vakalahi: Stay (didn't dress for any game, but is a development player that they like)
Jordan Mailata: Stay
Landon Dickerson: Stay
Darian Kinnard: Stay (Birds kept him on 53-man roster, and like his upside)
Le'Revan Clark: Go (he's a FA; expect Birds to move on)
Fred Johnson: Go (a FA that's likely worth more elsewhere)
Jack Driscoll: Go (late season Achilles injury is an issue)
Mekhi Becton: Go (reclamation success story; they seem to imply he'll be worth too much elsewhere)
Trevor Keegan: Stay (needs to get bigger, but they seem to like him)

Special Teams
Jake Elliott: Stay
Braden Mann: Stay
Rick Lovato: Stay

DL

Bryce Huff: Stay (they think Howie will try to trade him, but not have much luck)
Josh Sweat: Go (Super Bowl performance priced him out for the Birds)
Jalen Carter: Stay
Thomas Booker: Stay
Jordan Davis: Stay (biggest question is if the Birds pick up the fifth-year option)
Milton Williams: Stay (will cost a lot, but he's too young a DT to let walk)
Byron Young: Stay (time on IR hurt his ability to make his case, but he's big)
Charles Harris: Go (didn't break into the DE rotation; will spend at position to replace Sweat & Graham)
Gabe Hall: Go (well liked for scout team work, but draft is deep at DT)
Moro Oromo: Stay (will offset Williams loss if he departs, but is a big undersized)

LB
Nolan Smith: Stay
Nakobe Dean: Stay
Oren Burks: Stay (should be inexpensive, yet can help, especially with Kean likely to miss beginning of next season)
Ocean Mathis: Go (midseason addition that didn't do much)
Dallas Gant: Go (not an upgrade)
Zack Baun: Go (Birds don't pay LBers, and while he played great, how much was due to scheme)
Jeremiah Trotter, Jr: Stay
Ben VanSumeren: Stay (Birds like him; only question is his recovery from knee surgery)
Jalyx Hunt: Stay

DB

Darius Slay: Go (if he doesn't retire, could be a tough decision)
C.J. Gardner-Johnson: Stay
Cooper DeJean: Stay
Sydney Brown: Stay (thrived as a gunner; may have to wait another year for opportunity to start)
Kelee Ringo: Stay (possible candidate to replace Slay -- if he leaves)
Eli Ricks: Stay (a cost-effective reserve)
James Bradberry: Go (will be released, though that will be a cap hit)
Quinyon Mitchell: Stay
Avonte Maddox: Go (versatile reserve; Birds should have younger options)
Andre' Sam: Go (didn't give much of a reason)
Reed Blankenship: Stay
Isaiah Rodgers: Go (another team seeing him as a starter will price out the Birds)
Tristin McCollum: Stay (was 3rd safety until he struggled and Maddox overtook him)

The cap went up by $25M for next year. That really helps the Eagles. I disagree with them letting Baun go. System player or not, he’s outstanding in their system!

It's funny... I thought about that and figured I missed a new signing window in the NFL. I don't follow those things as closely as I used to.... I am trying to find the news article I saw that reported he had several offers.

What is everyone's thoughts does Travis Kelce retire? He is definetly close to the end it sounds like plus his production is definetly dropping off. Will be a big loss for Mahomes and the Chiefs when he does pull the plug. He has been a big weapon and safety valve for a long time for them. If he definelty thinking long term with Taylor Swift and starting a family etc I would imagine he is retiring now or in the next year or so....

To use the franchise tag you have to room under the cap for the entire contract. Because they are usually up against the cap it’s difficult to use

without the projected 25ish mil increase the birds have 19.5 mil right now. If they tag Baun, the projected tag for LBers is 28ish mil, but his projected contract number is 10-15mil per. BL, he’s not a good tag candidate even if they did want to. Howie loves to back-load contracts so I can see a 3 year 42ish mil backloaded contract (8, 12, 22 option year)

Gulp. Nerve issues in the back aren’t good for an OL. Factor in the tush push and I imagine they’re even worse.

Jurgens looks like a helluva player, I hope he fully recovers and isn’t limited because of this.

Right. With say $24M guaranteed. That gives both Baun and the Eagles some flexibility.

I’d be mildly surprised if Pickett is still on the roster next year. Yes, they gave up a pick for him, but I think the plan was always to parlay him into a better pick.

McKee has significant tools. And he’s quite a bit cheaper than a first round pick heading into the final year of his rookie deal.

McKee showed some talent when given an opportunity….lots to like about the kid. Pickett while not horrible ….is IMO ….third best QB on the roster. I am quite sure that Howies phone will ring as injuries occur around the league. He has some nice trade bait with both backups. Howie….again….in a nice position to deal.

that certainly makes sense. It kind of sucks for Pickett, as he's a local kid that grew up a Birds fan. I do wonder what Howie can parlay Pickett into. I thought the Birds somewhat overpaid for him (they obtained him and a 2024 4th-round pick from the Steelers, and gave up a 2024 3rd-round pick and two 2025 7th-round picks, but QBs always seem to cost more than I expect, and as a fan, I always have this naive expectation that the Birds will always make lopsided trades in their favor. (It's interesting that they gave up a 2024 3rd-round pick for Pickett, and a 2025 3rd-round pick for Dotson, so Howie doesn't always fleece his fellow GMs.)

It's very possible they get a 3rd round pick back for Pickett. I think that's ok given that Pickett made significant contributions in 2024. With Hurts' injury history, it's also ok if Pickett stays on the roster next season. They had to go 3 deep at QB late in the season. You can't have too much depth in today's game.
