So why did Rizzo just stop and give the Dodgers an easy out at second after what would have been an error?? First and second with one out is better than a man on first with two outs.

hard to believe the top of the 5th in Game 5.

The Yankees are leading 5-0. The Dodgers get bases loaded with no out. Then Cole gets 2 straight strikeouts, including Ohtani. The next batter hits a squibber to 1st. Cole (the pitcher) starts to run to 1st to cover the bag, and then stops (I guess he thought the 1st baseman could make the play). Well, the runner beat the 1st basemen to the bag, and so the Dodgers score a run. Then Freeman hits a single to plate 2, and then Hernandez his a double to score 2. (And that description doesn't even include the 2 errors in the field that lead to the bases loaded).

The Yankees should have been out of the inning, with a 5-0 lead, and Cole still at a descent pitch count. Now (the Yankees just got the 3rd out, on a grounder to SS that was a force out at 2nd), the game is tied 5-5, and it's debatable if Cole will have anything left for the 6th inning.

As a Braves fan, I hate the Yankees even more than the Phils. F them. I love that Freddie is killing them.

LOL. I definitely am rooting for the meteor.

I've mellowed quite a bit over the years, and don't hate any teams. That said, in the NL, the 3 teams I dislike are the Mets, the Braves, and the Dodgers. In the AL, the only team I dislike is the Yankees.

I'm watching the WS more out of tradition than anything else, and really don't care who wins. The only thing I'm rooting for other than the meteor is for the games go be good, and the series to be long and entertaining.

I thought I wouldn’t care much … but the Yankees quickly reminded me just how much I hate them more than any other sports organization in the world. I’m much happier they lost, and they imploded in doing so, than I am that the Dodgers won.

Yankees meltdown. 2 errors ÷ Cole not covering 1st leads to 5 unearned runs.

Then a broken bat infield hit, walk, and catcher's interference leads to 2 more runs.

You don't get much for $300 million.
The Dodgers got a WS out of Freeman, who's $162,000,000 contract will be paid up in 2040 with a $5mm payment. Ohtani's $700mm contract will be finalized with a $68,000,000 payment in 2043. Still, they lucked into teams having injury issues to make it to the series. It's always who's hot in the end.

Cole not covering first base, wow, what a bonehead play.
You tell me what’s worst, them practicing that drill every Spring or me sitting there watching it. I actually sit there watching pitchers simulating throwing and then running to cover first base to receive a throw at first base.

They do it every year but I still sit there and watch it.

That must have been painful for Yankee fans. Also, Volpe going to third with no outs and a five run lead, wow, that was bad. And in an earlier game, can’t quite remember the specifics but the Yankee 2nd baseman got lackadaisical and let a throw from the outfield get by him, let the runner get to third, scored on a SF in a one-run game. Painful.

I am a life long Yankee fan, but they have been a tough team to watch over the past several years. They are built around the home run and not much else.

Yep. With even average defense there’s a good chance New York would be up 3-2 in the series

and the LA fans burn the city down - yeah. But man what a collapse by the Yankees = might cut down on the number of Yankees caps at the shore next year but probabale not. Funny when we were in Europe last summer we would see a half dozen Yankees caps being worn in Spain and Italy every day and it was by residenst not tourists - strane and I bet most don't even know what baeball is.

The first dispersal order was announced at 10 p.m. after large crowds gathered at Sunset Boulevard and Douglas Street near Dodger Stadium.:LOL::LOL:

IMO, going to 3rd was the right play by Volpe. His momentum was going that way and it was a force play, easier than pivoting and going to 2nd or 1st. Right play, bad execution, a good throw or if Chisholm makes the pick, he’s out.

It would have been too close a play at third. I think the throw bounced because Volpe decided to pull back, too late.

Netflix series "THE COMEBACK" just dropped regrading the 2004 Yankee meltdown. Really well done.

As a lifelong Red Sox fan, I would root for the Taliban if they were playing the Yankees.

Great day in my household today
