149 Kasak vs Arrington

First period
Arrington is in on a leg to start and comes up through the legs and around for a 3-0 lead. Arrington rides for a bit and then Kasak gets out to 3-1 with 1:21 left. No more scoring.

Second period
Arrington does to start the second. He's out in about 25 seconds to 4-1. Arrington is in on a single but Kasak counters and gets around Arrington to tie the bout at four with 30 seconds left in the second. That's how the period ends

Third period
Kasak takes down. He is out to 5-4 with 1:42 left in the third. Stall warning against Kasak on the edge with 40 seconds left as they go off. Arrington is shooting Kasak sprawls back and drives back and that's it. He's an All-American.

Kasak d. Arrington, 5-4.

Nice win for Kasak but I think I would have hit with a second stall call late in the 3rd

Life is good

1. Jeff Byers on the Bluetooth speaker while the TV is muted

2. Everything is perfectly synched

3. Just love Jeff’s multi-tasking commentary. He remarks on other ongoing matches, when possible, far better than the ESPiN goofballs

@GregPickel -- Truax's match isn't posted yet (mat assignment), but they are posted into 174. With Bartlett and then Haines set to go, I think we'll run into a problem. I'll handle Bartlett & Haines, and hope you can handle Truax.

Like the illness we already know has impacted him the whole second half of the season?
Yes. I’m aware that he was sick at some point, but clearly it’s more than just a transient virus. Something more chronic.

I'm not going to jump to any conclusions. Whatever is/was going on, it undoubtedly impacted pretty much all of the 2024 portion of his season. And, there's also some wrestling things he can advance in, too. With both cleaned up next year, I would expect him to have a better 2024-2025, for sure.

Thanks for the condescending original answer. I appreciate it. Just lost a lot of respect for you.

141 Championship Semifinal: #2 seed Beau Bartlett vs. #8 seed Lachlan McNeil (UNC) -- I'll use LM

Per 1
Bartlett shoots from center field and LM tries to counter, nothing. Beau semi-shoots a double, but halts. Beau working the head. Nothing thru 1:30. Beau with a lot of feints this period, but not any real shots. End

Per 2
Beau defers, and LM takes bottom. LM sort of rolls, then is to his feet, returned, then up again, and OOB with 1:47 left. LM to his feet, and Beau releases him at 24 sec in, 0-1. Stalemate with 49 sec left. 30 sec left. Beau with a front headlock, gut the buzzer sounds. ENd. RT @ 24 sec for LM

Per 3
Beau takes bottom. He's to his feet, turns, returned, then turns and gets a reversal, 2-1. He's working the arm into the shoulder, and tilts LM, but only a 1 count. Beau tilts him again and is getting swipes, 2 NF as LM gets to his stomach. OOB with 22 sec left. RT @ 1:18 for Beau. LM hits a roll, covered, to his feet, returned, and that's it. With RT, it's a 5-1 DEC for Beau!

He'll face Jesse Mendez (tOSU) in the final tomorrow night

Can someone please explain Barrett’s back points. He turn the kid for a 1 count and then turns him for a clear 3 count and the ref gives him 2 back points. Shouldn’t be have received 3 back points?
It looked like the ref did a one-count, then the wrestlers moved a bit. Beau reasserted the back position, and got two from the ref. Not sure the gap by the official was justified, but I think that is what happened.

I saw it as a completed two count, and the referee was halfway through his third swipe and, instead of finishing it, awarded the two before finishing the three count.

Byers certainly thought so.

My guess is that Bartlett titled him and got a 1 count. As that swipe was given, McNeil moved past 45º, then Beau moved him back past 45º. The ref's swipes looks like 3 straight swipes, but it's 1 then 2, so only 2 NF.

My other guess is the ref was giving a swipe as McNeil moved out of criteria. Most refs still give that swipe (it's kind of hard to stop them), but they don't count them as a swipe, and then Beau moved him into criteria so the two additional swipes counted, so it was 2 NF.

I've done both of the above many times, and coaches often question you on it, and you have to explain either situation. The optics are confusing, but the appearance of a swipe doesn't always mean it's a 1 count.
