the last post on this looked like we have 6-8 players who need to be off scholarship or any other aid from Penn State. they could hit the portal, give up the sport or walk-on with their own funding that could come from NIL. at this point those players know who they are. Technically the NCAA can force scholarship count to include players who are funded by NIL if the school is involved setting it up, but do not think they have been doing that. That is the old rule that a player on "academic" scholarship will still count to the 85Anyone know the current status with how many still need to hit the portal?

I think the answer is they can be forced off the roster but not off their scholarship at a BIG school. They don't count against the 85, if that matters any more, but can remain a scholarshipped student. How can student-athletes with remaining eligibility be forced off the roster when they haven’t graduated?

the 85 still matters and defines the number of scholarship players on the roster funded by Penn State scholarships. there will be some number of players who are released from scholarships by the deadline (start of fall camp?). those players must know who they are by now.I think the answer is they can be forced off the roster but not off their scholarship at a BIG school.
