Anyone want to take a stab at who the other 7 SEC schools State will play next year (besides OM obviously)? I'm guessing it will look a lot like a typical SEC schedule for us (Bama, Auburn, Arkansas, OM, LSU). The other three schools are up for grabs. 247 predicted we would play @ OU and not LSU.

Anything past Mississippi, Kentucky & Texas A&M and either Texas or Oklahoma is pure guesswork. I’ll guess Bama, LSU, Arkansas & Missouri.

Ryan Flower, sports talk out of Tuscaloosa, was on Bo's show this AM. He said that Bama wanted MSU, rather than LSU, and that threw a wrench in the 9 game schedule.

Yep. We will see what wins out. For all of history, the SEC as a whole scheduled to get more teams winning, and to protect the teams most likely to win (thus, MSU got sh*t on repeatedly, especially so since we never stood up for ourselves). Now, it looks like it's shifting more towards money and TV matchups.

Ultimately it will end up being about how much money ESPN will give us. And if it's that big, they'll want the matchups I'm sure. If not, the 1-7 will continue.

So, it's kind of a good development for us that they threw a kink in the 9-game schedule, because we'd probably rather not do that.

According to Brett McMurphy, 5 teams (UGA, Florida, LSU, Missouri, A&M) voted for a 9 game schedule. So even if the SEC flipped us and LSU causing Bama to switch their vote, 2 more schools would have to change.

What’s the incentive for any of the remaining schools to support a 9 game conference schedule?

I said this before but giving everyone 3 permanents indefinitely is a terrible Idea. No non rival should get Bama every year for eternity just like they shouldn’t get Vandy every year.

I'm going to assume OU is going to be one of them since State and South Carolina are the only two SEC schools that have never played them. That at least gives them something to make that match-up interesting.

Here are the OU vs existing SEC records:

There is none, except for a significant increase in money.

I'm glad MOST of the SEC realizes this. And it's a good thing, for the good of the game. We now KNOW (for one year, anyway) we will likely keep Clemson/SC, Florida/FSU, Kentucky/Louisville, Georgia/GT, maybe even Oklahoma/Pokes. Plus we have more cross pollination with the rest of the country.

I still don't see the problem with the 2-6 model. There's no real reason, money or rivalries or anything else, that you have to play every team in the SEC home and away every 4 years.

In a new experiment, we get a same season home and home with Alabama and Georgia. After feedback from Kirby and Saban, I fully expect this to become permanent in our schedule.
That’s okay.

Alabama and UGA are our real rivals.

I think it will be a four year deal, and then a reshuffling to adjust for teams rising and falling. Like when Saban retires, how long will Zombie Bama win 9-10 games a year (or more) before they start to fall off?
