I may be grasping at straws but we can view this as "new and exciting" and a variance from the "old and stale".

So, we don't play either one of our two closest SEC opponents. This new SEC already sucks.
Why? You didn't consider them rivals, did you? They don't view us that way. We have no natural rivals in the SEC. There's only one way we ever will have such a rival. Most of y'all don't want what it would take.

Yeah but the good news is we get bama, and Oklahoma on the road with a side of LSU at home. Easy day....

Keep in mind this is a 1 year schedule. I think the SEC protected rivalry games for schools that have been in the league longer than us.
It shows in the schedule.

Exactly. And again I say, we are wannabe rivals to the other league schools, not actual rivals.

I haven't read any articles on the realignment, but I assume it will now just be one big conference with no East and West?

For right now.
It will make it almost impossible to go to the conference championship with 1 loss.

Why don't you hold your water until you see what the permanent scheduling model is going to look like? You do understand this is temporary, don't you? You do understand we have never had any leverage in this league, don't you?

Settled from the day the latest expansion was formalized, just not discussed. A foregone conclusion.

You should know better than to get swept up in this.

I'm not swept up in anything. I just want to play UGA and UT. That, to me, is part of a college football season. Yeah, it'll be cool to play Oklahoma and Bama, but we're supposed to play UGA and UT. I know it wasn't always so, but it has been so for over 30 years. We've still got people hung up on the ACC, and we were only in that conference for 19 years and haven't been in it for over 50 years.

UF game was never important to me. They beat us like a drum and it was never much a contest. We actually beat UT our first year in the conference and I lived in Tennessee for a while, so that game was always important to me. And we actually beat UGA from time to time, so the game kind of took on a rivalry feel from our side.

Living in the Atlanta area, I can tell you that not only do UGA fans not consider us as rivals, they barely consider us at all.
I'm sure that is true, overall. It certainly was not true from 2007-2014 when we went 5-3 against them and won 3 in a row. But, sadly, that was a blip.

Yes. And reduced our chances of ever making another SECCG from slim to none.
The SECCG will be rendered irrelevant, as all the others will be, as playoff expansion happens. Just like in baseball and basketball. Nobody cares about those conf tournaments. I remember Coach Cal talking about how he'd rather lose early in the SECT so his team could rest for the dance.

Yep. This is just the first shoe to drop. They'll have no choice but to eliminate the historical rivalries as well as expansion continues. C.R.E.A.M is the only thing that matters.

We'll see how it shakes out. There will still be a lot on the line with possible byes.

Welcome Oklahoma!

The Sooners have home games against Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas (in Dallas), while they travel to Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and Missouri.

It was true then as well (trust me, I lived through it), they just considered it an aberration, and more a testament to their ineptitude.

So The Gamecocks trade UGA, Florida and Tennessee for Oklahoma, LSU and Ole Miss. Under the old SEC rotation, the Gamecocks were already scheduled to play @ Alabama in 2024.

Ehhh, I dunno. I lived in Chattanooga, right on the Georgia border, and rubbed shoulders with A LOT of UGA folks each and every day. More UGA folks in that area than UT folks. We were a thorn in their side for sure. That is not to say they saw us as their equal or a true rival, but for a period of 8 years it was a contested matchup. Yes, they spoke of us with disdain because they had to, but there was always a hint of realization in their scorn that we were now someone to be contended with. To make matters worse, we appeared to be getting better while they seemed to be trending down. I'm not saying they ever considered us a rival, because they're too arrogant for that, but for 8 seasons, they had to take us seriously.

It was very much like our fans continuing to look down on UK, even as they continued to beat us year in and year out.

Well, you and I have very different perspectives. I had to work with several UGA graduates/fans and they never ever considered us as someone to contend with or to be taken seriously. They had the unshakable belief they were not only better, but far superior than we were.
For them it was nothing more than a complete aberration.

I looked at some fun facts on our Ga series. First game 1894. Over the years it's almost 75% Ga wins.

As noted above Spurrier made it competitive. He was 5-6 against them. Georgia fandom already hated him when he came here.

So, during that time frame is when we started recruiting the state of Georgia and won some recruiting battles. Georgia fans were losing their
collective minds because Spurrier was a threat even if they wouldn't acknowledge USC as a threat.

I don't know how to define what a rivalry is, but they've won a bunch more than us. I think the SOS time heated up the series and both fan bases.

Please get a hold of yourself until you see the long-term plan. This schedule is a debut schedule designed to deliver splashy matchups for the new-look SEC. It succeeds mightily.

Don't you still complain about not being in the ACC on here?
