The Steelers are officially in the market for a Center, provided they don't move one of their guards to that position. They haven't had a decent player at that position in years. Luckily, it's a strong position in the draft should they go that direction.

Trade for Fields. Draft/Free agent needs: C, ILB, OT, DL and CB

Heard that they may make a run at Russ Wilson. That does not excite me.
Agree. If they do that, they are going the cheap route and hoping for a miracle. Russell is getting paid major cash by Denver still. Whatever a team signs him for, Denver owes the rest, so teams can offer a undermarket contract and Denver is still on the hook for the rest. It’s a low risk move financially, but not a long term solution.

From what I heard today on talk radio, if they trade for Fields he's going to want a contract. I don't know how the can demand that when he has nothing to point to saying he deserves it.
Yes, I would think he would. I agree with you. Whatever team makes that move has to get creative with incentives. He has one year left on his rookie deal, I think? I wouldn’t promise too much without seeing something tangible first.

I don’t see fields fitting with this offensive coordinator unless he has become more of a pocket passer. I have watchEd chicago probably zero times since the 80’s. Fans of the bears can tell us about his potential.
There are other qbs in the draft in later rounds that they could get. We used to score some great players in later rounds.

Goodness, Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo……….
What’s your opinion on the QB situation? Rumors are Fields could be had for a second and fourth rounder. If they could do that trade and get the C from Oregon in the first, I’d be good with that. The QBs in the draft where the Steelers pick are no sure thing.

He has one year for around $6 millon plus a 5th year team option that's around $23.3 million.

Ouch. Yeah, I don’t know about that. You better be really sure he’s the guy if your picking up that 5th year.

Khan drafted pretty well last year. There’s some good young players on the team and the skill players are very good. There’s a lot to work with there.

I don’t think it’s a fit at all. Fields would have made more sense if Canada was still the OC.

McCarthy, Hartman who else in round 2 and beyond. I wish they showed some patience and drafted an olineman before picket and this year trades two number ones to move up to the top.

I’d rather Penix than McCarthy. There are some concerns about his injury history so he may be there at 20? Hard to pass up a big OL player there though.

Rattler was really impressive at the Senior Bowl. He might be worth a 3rd if he drops that far.

I'd prefer just about any option there over Kenny or Fields. Just keep drafting QBs until one is clearly the answer. Don't waste time on guys that clearly are not. You don't need 3-4 years to find that out.

I think that has been the Browns strategy since Bernie Kosar. Hasn’t worked out too well.

There’s one thing that Fields and Pickett can be evaluated for that those guys can’t, NFL game experience. There’s been many, many can’t miss college QBs that don’t cut it against NFL competition. I still think Fields has the talent to be successful in the NFL. Pickett is probably a lifelong backup.

The QB situation is less than desirable as-is. I think Fields is mediocre at best. I don’t think he’s even a decent Qb. He benefitted fro superior talent surrounding him in college. I would just rather see the Steelers limp through 2024 with what exists than bring in anyone who is no better than what they have

What exists is a guy that lost his job to a 3rd stringer and Rudolph is now a free agent. You think 2025 draft is the answer?

Sure, but which of those Browns QBs in all that time would have turned them around if they'd just been more patient? The fact that the Browns are just atrocious at evaluating QB talent doesn't invalidate my plan.

Look around the league. You essentially know before the season starts which 6-8 teams can actually win the Super Bowl with their QB. If you don't have one of those, you're just wasting your time with whoever you have. Draft QBs until you have a super bowl caliber one.
