Eagles trade for Sam Howell, Tanner McKee up for trade bait??

My guess is that they don’t like McCord at all. The eagles seem to put a lot of value in backup qb so I doubt they trade McKee. Jmo.

No, they're not trading McKee. Since Friday's preseason game, one of the bigger stories in articles and on sports talk about the Birds has been the QB situation. McKee hurt his finger, and nothing has leaked out as to the severity of it/how long he'll be out. It may be that he'll be fine by the Dallas game; only the team knows for sure. But the concern in the articles and on sports talk is what if he's out for a game (or more) at the start of the season, and then Hurts gets injured in a game. McCord may be fine in a few years, but he's not close to being ready. And Dorian Thompson-Robinson has done nothing in preseason practice, or preseason games, to give anyone confidence in him. This seems to be some insurance for the possibility of being unexpectedly without Hurts or McKee. There is too much talent on the team to take a chance of not having a dependable 3rd string QB for an emergency situation.

Howie paid a bit more than I would have expected for Howell, but he has so many extra picks with which to work. If I recall correctly, before the trade he had 13 picks in the 2026 NFL draft. There are not 13 rookies making the team next year. So I expect a lot of swapping of the picks, either to fix unexpected weaknesses, or to move up in the 2026 draft, or some combo of both.

McKee has also been hurt. With the season opener 10 days away, they can’t mess around with McCord being one hit away from playing.

Howell gives them a better back up if McKee can’t go week one. He also is a more viable #3 if they need it like last season.

I thought Howell did a decent job with the Commanders two seasons ago. He didn't have a lot to work with. Gave the Eagles some trouble.

That 2023 Eagles pass D was also a sieve, so I don't know what to think about Howell's play. In the end, he's a serviceable #3 and that's what they need. If they're forced to use him for an extended period, then they can't expect to contend anyway.

Howie with another trade. It makes some sense, as the observations from practice and from games have been that the depth at OL is not great, and the Birds could be in some trouble if any of the starters were out for a significant length of time.

there's a reason he had a bad camp. Tells you how bad they wanted to move on from CJGJ, imo
Maybe the real story will come out someday. My hunch is there was a locker room situation at play. CJGJ went unhinged in the playoff run. I wonder whether his Travis Kelce comments irked Jason and other inside of Novacare?

i think it was more on the field. If you go back in every big play, especially vs the run, you'll find CJGJ tackling dirt.

While I know the depth isn't good, i'm not so worried because i think it's not that the depth players aren't good, it's that they're so young. Hinton, Williams, Kendall, Keegan...

The cuts to get to 53 seem to be coming out piecemeal. What I've seen so far:

A.J. Woods, CB
Ochaun Mathis, OLB/DE
Andre Sam, S
Terrace Marshall, WR
Elijah Cooks, Wr
Maxen Hook, S
ShunDerrick Powell, RB
Eli Ricks, CB
Keilan Robinson, RB
Kyle McCord, QB
Montrell Johnson, RB
Nick Muse, TE
E.J. Jenkins, TE
Kenyon Green, OG
Dorian Thompson-Robinson, QB
Lewis Cine, S
Darian Kinnard, OL

Hopefully, they can get several of the guys that are 4 years or less service through waivers, and sign them to the practice squad.

Montrell Johnson (RB) showed some potential. I wouldn't be surprised if they sign McCord to the practice squad. Ricks was somewhat of a surprise, as he's been good at CB and on special teams. Elijah Cooks showed some flash at WR, and then got injured. Andre Sam has some potential at safety.

I think some of this (Ricks) is a function of how deep the roster is right now.

My hunch is that McCord clears waivers and winds up on their practice squad for the season.

I thought Karian Kinnard was traded to GB. I am rooting for Andre Sam was a good player here at Marshall, of course he transferred when the DC left

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show me an all access of this conversation…. I’m a sucker for undervalued, undrafted, long-shot being told they made it stories…

Hoping KJ Hamler can catch on somewhere and someone sign him after being cut today by the Bills.

Here’s your official roster. Of note, no LS, Mac McWilliams makes the team, Darius Cooper makes the team, BVS as a FB, 3 RB, 11OL, 7DL,
