Vikings trade Sam Howell to Eagles, sign Carson Wentz
Wentz signs with the Vikings after a successful tryout over the weekend, as Howell gets traded for a third time in his young career.www.nbcsports.com
My guess is that they don’t like McCord at all. The eagles seem to put a lot of value in backup qb so I doubt they trade McKee. Jmo.
No, they're not trading McKee. Since Friday's preseason game, one of the bigger stories in articles and on sports talk about the Birds has been the QB situation. McKee hurt his finger, and nothing has leaked out as to the severity of it/how long he'll be out. It may be that he'll be fine by the Dallas game; only the team knows for sure. But the concern in the articles and on sports talk is what if he's out for a game (or more) at the start of the season, and then Hurts gets injured in a game. McCord may be fine in a few years, but he's not close to being ready. And Dorian Thompson-Robinson has done nothing in preseason practice, or preseason games, to give anyone confidence in him. This seems to be some insurance for the possibility of being unexpectedly without Hurts or McKee. There is too much talent on the team to take a chance of not having a dependable 3rd string QB for an emergency situation.
Howie paid a bit more than I would have expected for Howell, but he has so many extra picks with which to work. If I recall correctly, before the trade he had 13 picks in the 2026 NFL draft. There are not 13 rookies making the team next year. So I expect a lot of swapping of the picks, either to fix unexpected weaknesses, or to move up in the 2026 draft, or some combo of both.
