Note to the Collegian writer, Rutgers did not score on a PK. They scored on a DFK (direct free kick) from right outside the penalty area.

At least the Collegian writer got the "kick" part correct. That is better than some of the things I've seen reported.

Red card to Maryland with 17:15 left. The ref missed it live, but it was picked up under video review. And based on what I saw, it was an easy call.

PSU will be a man up for the balance of the game, unless one of their players gets a red card.

PSU has a breakaway, the MD defender catches up to him, then the PSU attacker is tripped, and no call. BTN showed the replay, and the announcers indicated it should have been a call, and probably a yellow card. smh

MD awarded a DFK, with 4:21, just outside the penalty area. These are tough to defend.

And ...

goal, by MD. The shot was low, and got just around the wall, and then just inside the post.

2-2, with 4:20 left.

Goal, Penn State, but he's ruled offside.

They are going to video review.

The BTN video that is shown isn't directly along the line of the last defender, so it's tough to say, but my sense is that he's offside.

The call stands

MD had a DFK from about 25 yards out, with 0:05 sec left. It nearly went in, but PSU's goalie deflected the ball to the side, and that ran out the clock.

Final: 2-2

Is it I, or is PSU having an uncharacteristically poor fall sports season?

I watched this game and Maryland controlled it until the red card. It just seems as if the men's soccer team has fallen way behind the other traditional Big 10 powers in recent seasons.

I also watched the IU-MSU game that was on before our game, and the announcers mentioned about how many of IU's players play for the Chicago Fire Academy team. Does PSU have many academy players? It just seems that, much like with college hockey in which you really need to recruit the Junior ranks rather than regular high school players if you really want to be successful, you need to recruit the soccer academies to be a real player.
