We should see a good dose of Grunk in the first three games (Nevada, NIU and Villanova). I'm looking forward to seeing how he develops. It would be awesome if some of the hype about him turns out to be true. I guess I'm also assuming he's going to win the backup spot over Smolik. We'll see.

I self tortured this AM and rewatched some of the first and second quarters.
1. Simgelton should have made the catch near the goal line, he dropped it, pass was a little low but it hit him in the hands.
2. 1st quarter pass to sideline to Evan’s. Evan’s never turns to look for ball and Drew throws it late, look early, easy gain.
3. WR routes are confusing. They all seem to give up their routes and stop quite a bit. No concept of trying to find space to help out your QB. Maybe things are geared towards getting Warren open since he was the receiving weapon?

So probably a combo of unskilled WRs, weird route schemes, and perhaps a QB not in sync with the WRs because he doesn’t trust them at all.

Definitely agree on those two plays, especially the Singleton one. not a great pass, but catchable and should’ve been a touchdown.

From my seats in the North end zone, you can see the whole field. I have gotten sick of watching our WR’s run their routes. I never coached football, but I would constantly think… they are NEVER open!!

Perhaps? Because he doesn’t trust them?

This is a wildly pro-Alar spin on what was a lousy performance by him. Yes, Singleton Could have caught it, but the pass component was worse than the drop component. He significantly overthrew both Warren and Singleton on passes on the sideline, both of which would certainly have been long gains and possibly TDs. Both were wide open, so (though not WRs) this notion that nobody ever gets open is just another excuse by the Allar apologists. He also grossly underthrew open receivers on his two (non) interceptions, both of which could have been TDs. And for a 5-star high schooler with two full seasons of starting at a top program, his footwork is terrible. He throws off his back foot way more than necessary when he should be stepping into his throws.

Or when they are open, Warren is the first read so he gets the ball because he is open.
I think there were hundreds of plays over the year where Evans or Wallace were the first read and maybe even the second, but they initially couldn’t get off the line or didn’t have enough separation so it was forced to Warren
