I’m sure there were some signs that Ryder was talking to DT all year… just a hunch and Cael tested his loyalty or was told he’s leaning. Time will tell. Love ZR but Rocco is top 3 at 184 next year.
Cael brought in Welsh to test Ryder's loyalty?

Sometimes people can't accept that the easiest, most straight-forward answer that also happened to be reported is the correct one, and need to find other reasons.

Bo Bassett's cousin...

His bio says he placed third as a freshman and sixth as a soph in high school at Bishop McCort. It's silent about his junior and senior years?
That's sloppy wording in his bio. He placed 2x at Forest Hills, then transferred to McCort.

McCort's entire team was ineligible for the next 2 postseasons because of widespread recruiting.

He's Bassstt's cousin but also Mason Gibson's brother. I'd expect Rutger unless we hear something concrete otherwise.

Here is the perception doing I predicted days ago that the “brilliant minds” on this board effusively argued would not appear:

🚨 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐅𝐄𝐑 𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐓!!!! 🚨

***BREAKING NEWS***

In what is likely to be the "Story of the Day" on the NCAA Wrestling scene; NY-USAW received word moments ago that Empire State phenom, 𝒁𝑨𝑪𝑲 𝑹𝒀𝑫𝑬𝑹, will be moving on from Penn State University after spending the past two seasons training in State College!!!

The consummate teammate and/or loyal Nittany Lion during his two-year stint in the Keystone State; the 184-pound standout found himself victimized/betrayed last week by the cruelty of a changing NIL/transfer portal culture that has permeated throughout the scope of amateur athletics!!

Receiving no advanced notice and thus blindsided by the recent announcement of 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐨 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐡'𝐬 (2024 NCAA DI National runner-up) decision to bolt from Columbus (Ohio State) and take his talents to Happy Valley; a trust that once seemed strong as oak was shattered in the blink of an eye!!!

Doing everything within his control to demonstrate himself worthy of stepping in as the successor to 5x NCAA Champion, 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙘𝙞 (who publicly endorsed Ryder in a since deleted tweet); The "Zack Attack" posted an immaculate 16-0 record in 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 while representing the NLWC and/or competing unattached!!

Bypassing his senior campaign at 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙑𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙮 𝙃𝙎; Ryder would go 8-0 (@174) last year with tournament wins at the Edinboro and Messiah College Opens!!

As a diaper dandy/true freshman this season, he'd be even better up at 184 pounds; as he posted head-to-head victories over the likes of 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐨 (2x National Qualifier for Rutgers), 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐚-𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐡 (2025 National Qualifier; also of the Scarlet Knights), 𝐃𝐞𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫 (Oklahoma; 2x National Qualifier/2025 Blood Rounder), & 2024 All-American (7th), 𝐓𝐉 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐭 (Virginia Tech), en route to hoisting individual hardware at the 2024 Black Knight Invitational and the 2025 Southern Scuffle!!!

A consensus top-10 national prospect (#5 by FloWrestling; #6 by MatScouts) on all class of 2024 Big Boards; prior to trading MV Green for PSU/NLWC Blue; Ryder was the architect of one of the finest scholastic resumes in New York State Wrestling History....

Just a sampling of the bullet points he notched included:
*5x NYS Finalist/4x State Champion (runner-up as a 7th grader)
*4x Section 9 Titlist
*2021 Fargo 16U FS National Title/stop sign
*2021 NHSCA Freshman National Crown

His international vitae remarkably even more pronounced than his domestic feats; Ryder is riding (no pun intended) a three-year streak of medaling at UWW Age-Group FS World Championships...

In 2022 and 2023, he earned back-to-back U17 Bronzes at 80kg while competing in Rome (Italy) and Istanbul (Turkey)...

Last summer, he secured 79kg World runner-up honors at the U20/Junior level in Pontevedra, Spain!!!

There being no shortage of premier/instant impact contributors presently listed in the portal; in our humble and slightly biased opinion; Ryder's revelation elevates him to the #1 "free agent"!!!

Someone asked for a recap of what Rocco stated, I gave that recap. No judgement or speculation included. Leave that to you
I’m just playing devil’s advocate here. Someone projected that Welsh came on his own without any NIL, which is highly unlikely. Not one of the portal transfers has said money was a factor, but we all know to some degree it was with many. Pretending it wasn’t, even with our PSU incoming transfers is just naive.

This perception that you predicted days ago have been going on since Sanderson came here. He has been perpetually bring in top recruits & transfers regardless of who is already on the roster. Would you care to explain why this one is different?

It’s not an argument, least yet a straw man. It’s reality & it is laughable that your blue & white colored glasses won’t allow you to observe the world around you. I am not passing judgment on either side, just called it the moment it happened for how it would perceived. This one IS different & is being so described, NOT by me, but by many others. Loads of examples, here is just one:

Trust the coaches. They know what is best for the team. Everyone has their opinion, but only one man's opinion counts. No one is guaranteed a spot. Starocci is not your ideal psu wrestler attitude wise, though he has gotten better this year. For the record I am all in on Ryder, and feel they can do without welsh. They also would have survived without ono.
You can trust the coaches but when future recruits don’t trust the coaches you have a problem. This is a concern whether anyone likes it or not!

I think the part about this that is different in this case is that there wasn't anywhere kids could go recently that was a real threat to PSU. I'm not saying DT and oSu are there yet, but you're naive if you don't think they're trending. There are a lot of variables and a long way to.go before that's a possibility...like 2-3 seasons at minimum, but get someone like Ryder and/or Facundo at the top of the podium and some of your big time recruits, and they'll at least be somewhat of a threat. Lots of work to do though.

They just got Hamiti and Hendrickson to the top of the podium. Something those two individuals couldn’t do previously at other schools.

I'm well aware of that. That's two wrestlers...hardly a monumental trend. Great achievement? Of course. But there were also other factors like Kerk being injured. Those two got them this momentum but let's see what they do with Ryder and Facundo. If PSU still claims those weight classes, then they're nothing more than Beard, Nevills, and Barraclough.

Can't argue that. Let's see if he can make it a trend and also bring in enough high level recruits. Tall task.

The sky fell hard with Thomas Haines.

We're gonna win NCAAs by 50-80 points, have a relatively young team, got great hauls in 2025 and 2026, landed a world champ and a national finalist ... and we're doomed.

Just a little perspective for those who are saying that this can be used against Penn State as an example of recruiting over wrestlers. We brought in one guy. Now, how many established wrestlers has Okie State recruited over? For those who are concerned that DT is going to bring the Penn State style to OSU, it sure seems that he is taking the Iowa route to do it.

Many, many years ago, I was choosing my college. It was down to PSU and Army West Point. I had a meeting with an Army West Point recruiter who said the military academies are the best junior colleges in the world. You don't actually have to commit until after 2 years. You can go 2 years there then go somewhere else.

The Ryders can be "pissed" but they also got 2 years of the best training in the world and still have 4 years of eligibility left.

Ryder isn’t a victim lmao. I swear people are so thinned skin anymore. The only one betrayed was Cael and PSU. He knew how PSU did things when he came here. They have always stacked talent and made wrestlers earn their spot. The Ryders think they are owed something all of sudden having a problem with the way PSU does things smh. They are being dishonest and playing the victim card. The Okie $$$ they got was probably a pretty large sum too. I’m sorry but good riddance. The funny thing is he could have had a very good chance at still winning the starting spot.

Lol, sure. Cael brings in a National runnerup and sits him. He chose Rocco over Ryder. That is what college sports is today. No reason to blame Cael for doing it or blame Ryder for being pissed and leaving.
