I realize I may be a minority of one here, but given the religious significance of Advent, a time of preparation for, and the anticipation of, Christmas, I find this thread offensive. That said, I realize that for many, Christmas has become a secular holiday, and this is a secular board, and so I will move on.
Merry Christmas and May God Bless us, every one.

Personally, I don’t really understand any/all of the soft core porn on this board. But as with you, I’m sure that I’m in the minority.

Because we all have access to hard core porn elsewhere?

Probably more so that I’m sure it does/would turn some people away, and I’d rather we be more inclusive. And yes, there are plenty of places to get porn, so I don’t personally think it belongs on a Penn State message board that could have women, high school students, etc posting.

But as I said, I’m sure I’m in the minority with that viewpoint.

This is an age old argument for which there are no correct answers. The only option is, given what the nature of the thread is - simply don't open the thread.

I will respectfully disagree. That is not the only option. "Silence gives consent". Not speaking out sends a message that you are condoning it.
To me, for most topics on this board, an option is to voice an opinion without being preachy, and then moving on. There are times, though, when proselytizing might also be appropriate, but, since politics are not tolerated here, those threads are rare. In any event, since Tom started this thread, and I have great respect for him, and the way he runs this board, I will not rule out the possibility that I may be wrong.

You also said that you would move on from this thread in your first post. So, since you are back, does that not indicate that you are indeed, being preachy?

"Silence gives consent" is inappropriate in this context. Because it implies you have some level of authority to decide on the subject matter - and you don't. Just as I have no level of authority to decide on the subject matters you choose to discuss, such as your religous beliefs and the details in which you go into discussing them. If it's not something that is of interest to you, simply don't open the thread and delve into the subject matter.

If you want to continue this tete a tete, we cn, but I have to be away from the computer for a while.

I opened it because I was curious what could be "not safe for work" about an Advent Calendar, thinking it would be dirty jokes or something along those lines.

Given the history of the board, I guess I should have known (and replace "NSFW" with "Porn", and I probably wouldn't have opened it). I would have just moved along and shook my head, but @fairgambit said something, and I wanted him to know that he wasn't alone in his thinking. While I don't have any objections on a strictly religious reason (though I can obviously see why those who are religious would), I don't think that the posting of soft core porn reflects well on Penn State, or our community here. Not posting the porn would be another option outside of ignoring it...though obviously, I'm one of the few that think that way.

Not moving on does not indicate I am being preachy, but hypocritical. :)
As for the rest of your post, I disagree, but I don't think our further discourse will accomplish much, and so I will, again, move on.
Seriously.
Well, probably. 😉

One reason I don’t do many polls anymore. Half like it, half don’t. Not worth the squeeze.

This calendar has certainly changed over the years. I can't get over the number of nipple piercings.

Tgar is sitting next to his significant other at 36,000 feet up Flying cross country. Guessing this isn’t something Tgar should open at the moment
Tgar should sneak off into the bathroom of the plane with Tgar's phone and do Tgar things that only Tgar would think of doing in a bathroom on a plane at 36,000 feet flying cross country. Because he is Tgar.
