That was a win baby!!That was so painful!
This team is bad for my health. Glad to get the win, but I probably won't get enough sleep tonight now.
This was a grown *** man win. No Stute, ridiculous foul disparity, dog crap FT shooting, CMB fouls out, BJ in foul trouble, but they did what they had to do to close it out. This one took big stones to pull out.
is a win is a win.
The life of a Gamecock fan! This team is bad for my health. Glad to get the win, but I probably won't get enough sleep tonight now.
Exactly…And to think, we were predicted to finish at the bottom of the conference. We are not a team that is just gonna blow people out. Get your heart medication ready everyone.Would we have won this game a year ago? Or even two or three years ago?
Great win! Didn't get to watch due to conflict. Nice to see MJ have a nice game. Appears Mack struggled. We have about 6 players that could step up on any given night to be the difference maker.
Too bad we lost the UGA game at home and big on the road to Bama. Killing our chances of making the tournament
Particularly in the lingering foul stench of that fifth called on CMB. People can sniggle and tongue-cluck all they want but officials can and do manipulate games, and sometimes with impunity. You work and game plan and come in prepared only to run into that; it has an effect I promise you. That was a hostile crew.Ballsy move by Lamont to not call timeout after Ole Miss tied it up at 68.
Agree. Refs have more impact in bball than any other sport. Even before CMB fouled out, he was rendered ineffective on D due to having 4 fouls midway through the 2nd half. Same for Mack. It would be interesting to see if teams as a whole are getting to the bonus and double bonus quicker than they were 10-20 years ago. Seems every game I watch there’s a whistle every time someone is slightly touched. Just kills the flow of the game. But the hilarious thing is they’ll spend all game calling everything, then a dude gets mugged on a game winning drive and they swallow the whistle bc they don’t want to impact the outcome. Somebody needed to tell that crew that #30 Gamecocks is no longer Chris Silva.Particularly in the lingering foul stench of that fifth called on CMB. Not sure they have any more impact in basketball than baseball or football.Agree. Refs have more impact in bball than any other sport. You cannot foul out in baseball or football. The second CMB got his 4th, he was useless on D. They have way more control over neutralizing a particular team's best player(s). Imagine an OL having to leave the game early in the 4th bc he got a 3rd holding call. Or a DB having to leave bc he got 3 PIs.Not sure they have any more impact in basketball than baseball or football.
I just think it's bad overall. That's my complaint. It seems I find myself getting more upset b/c the flow of the game is so dictated by foul calls now. Or I'm just getting older and generally more annoyed with anything I come across.I tend to think most complaints about refs are overblown. Mostly agree about overall impact. I will say, the one difference in basketball is that refs make decision that lead directly to points by awarding foul shots. There's no equivalent for that in baseball or football where refs can award a free and direct opportunity to score points.
Usually if officials are bad, though, they are uniformly bad. There are rare exceptions, as in the Northwestern/Purdue game when Purdue took 46 foul shots to Northwestern's 8. That's difficult to explain away. An oddball situation though. Some tried blaming the refs for our early UGA loss when we took an equal number of foul shots.
Disagree. In baseball, umps offer free runs all the time. I was at a high school Tues and the ump had a very tight stroke zone. There were several bases loaded walks. I didn't complain because he was tight both ways. In basketball, you have to make the free throws. In baseball, you can do nothing but stand in the batters box and score a run.I tend to think most complaints about refs are overblown. Mostly agree about overall impact. Ladies softball gets us on the job training for marriageI've done a little officiating. Very little. Youth basketball and umpiring ladies softball. Basketball is hard to officiate consistently well, no matter how fair you try to be. Ladies softball is way more contentious, though. You can't make a call against a woman they agree with.
Yessir. What you have more often than should be are guys looking for things to call on one end but calling what they HAVE to call on the other. That was a key component in our FF run; we got guys responsibly officiating a basketball game instead of guys preening, gesturing and filling whistles with spit. There's no way to screen sports officials for impartiality. It's one of those human traits which raises its ugly head on so many different levels, no matter how much effort is made to filter it out.
