There was a fire up near Redding a few years ago where that happened. If the fire gets big enough it creates his huge column of rising hot air sucking in air from the surface around it. if it starts rotating watch out.

I don't recall ever hearing this term (fire tornado) or seeing a video like this. California weather and fires always surprise me.

The really interesting things we will see from a physics/ Chemistry/ science standpoint and what is possible while this planet begins to boil.

Thanks for posting that video. Remarkable.

They actually recognized the formation of a fire tornado during the Loyalton fire in 2020 enough to issue a warning:

In some post-fire areas i've seen the branches of trees twisted together into a torch shape, have to think this is video of that while it happens.

Firedevils/firenado/fire tornado have been around since the late 1800s and early 1900s. Unfortunately it's another media hyped sensation trying link it to global warming. Sad anymore any type of rare/unusual weather phenomenon and the media immediately goes to global warming. Just the other day the media and people down here in south florida were screaming about all the sargassum seaweed washing up on the shores and said it never happened before the year 2000. Meanwhile my friends family were some of the early settlers here and he showed a picture of his grandmother on the beach in the 1920s knee deep sargassum seaweed. And before anyone gets their panties in a bunch I am not saying that earth isn't warming. Just trying to help out with information and media sensation.

I believe this phenomenon was observed in both Dresden and Tokyo after heavy allied firebombing raids.

Weird as it may sound after seeing all the video from out here, it's been a fairly quiet season here so far. The numbers are way below the 5 year average (which is about to shot upward after the 16th and the lightning fires of 2020). The bulk of last year's was Dixie which was moving towards reaching max acreage at this point last year.

2022 Combined YTD (CALFIRE & US Forest Service)5,184181,252

5-Year Average (same interval)4,875623,202
